Exploring the Caribbean Islands and its Many Peoples,
By
This review is from: Caribbean Travel & Life (1-year) (Magazine)
Those who enjoy travel are fortunate when it comes to periodicals. There are many, many magazines devoted to the topic of travel and leisure, with some that are more general in content and others that are more narrow in scope. Caribbean Travel & Life is one magazine that fits into the latter category, with travel articles and general information exclusive to the Caribbean islands.
I have been subscribing to this magazine for several years and it is one of my favorite travel publications for several reasons. First of all, I like that it covers more than just travel. It is also a cultural magazine that takes you inside the individual islands, letting you see what life in the Caribbean is really like. Most of us think of the Caribbean as a vacation stomping ground, but these articles show that there really are permanent inhabitants on these islands and they have a unique culture to share. The other thing I enjoy about this magazine- and the reason most people read it- is the enticing photography. Every issue can be counted on for pages and pages of amazing photography and it will make you want to drop what you're doing, head to your pc, and lookup a travel web site so that you can plan a visit to one of the many islands in this region. Notice too that the cover picture is usually very enticing as well. It is usually a picture that includes water, with a brilliant blue hue intended to get readers to open the magazine and learn more. Caribbean travel & Life is a fun, entertaining, and informative magazine. It would be nice if the publishers printed 12 issues per year instead of only 9 (I don't like waiting two months between issues) and it would be nice if the cover price was a little more reasonable. But this is a very good magazine any way you look at it, with enticing photographs and informative articles about the people and places that comprise the West Indies and surrounding areas.

Read it slowly...,

I try to read this magazine slowly, allowing myself to dream I am on the trip with the writers. The magazine has something for everyone, whether you want an adventure or budget or luxury, the tips and even the ads are helpful in planning a Caribbean vacation just right for you.

Excellent mag, not just fancy pics of expensive resorts! It shows the real caribbean w/ real people. Great articles about regular people who travel to, live in or just love the caribbean.

Caribbean Travel & Life is the best!,
This review is from: Caribbean Travel & Life (1-year) (Magazine)
Caribbean Travel & Life is the best magazine to keep you on top of what's going on in the Caribbean. New resorts are featured, and extensive information is provided for island destinations. I can't wait to open an issue after going to the mailbox. This is definitely a first class publication.

I've been an off-and-on subscriber for twenty-eight years, sometimes off, but mostly on. I used to visit the Caribbean every six months. Caribbean Travel+Life was helpful in planning my trips, especially before we all had our Dells, HPs or Apples.
I appreciate the quality of this publication. The beautiful, crisp photos speak for themselves while intuitive articles keep me informed. Occasionally, an article about a person or place turns out to be a pleasant surprise, for I've BEEN to that place or I've MET that person, only to find him or her again between the pages. Such special memories include, among others, Lord Glenconner at his home in St. Lucia, Mr. Nate Olive on the island of St. Croix, Miss Lilly Bolt of Coxheath, Jamaica and Harvey and Betty Stephenson at Lookout Farm, Grand Cayman. It was indeed a pleasure to have met these fine folks. Besides stunning photos and top-notch articles I also like to check out "The Market" section. The magazine states, "Your Caribbean dreams can come true in our Island Marketplace. Rent a villa, buy a home, find the perfect hotel or a little bit of Caribbean charm...." Sure. No problem. All you need is money. The magazine actually caters to a broad range of travellers, from 3-day package dealers to month-long villa renters. Caribbean Travel+Life provides a vast wealth of knowledge which can be as interesting to the reader as the Caribbean itself. Note: Amazon's current subscription rate at $16.97 is phenomenal, I must say. We get a one year subscription (regularly nine issues per year) for only $1.89 per individual issue. It can't get too much better than that--unless they decide to pay us to subscribe. Although renewal is automatic we shall be notified in advance just in case we choose to cancel or change payment method. Furthermore, the price of the renewal will be the lowest available rate on Amazon at the time the magazine is renewed. Thank you for reading my review. Enjoy all your travels wherever you may go.

The pictures are inspirational, however I found the magazine lacking in substance. The articles are rather shallow, at least for someone who is not an avid traveller. I looked through 3-4 issues before canceling (non-refundable, it seems) and got bored. Pics are nice, but I come to expect more from magazines than nice pictures.

I have not yet received this particular purchase since I currently have a subscription, and this was just an extension. However, I really love this magazine, and never let it expire.

While CT+L (luckily) doesn't insist on having some type of rating in every issue that Conde Nast is obsessed with (Gold List/Best of/yada yada yada), I would like to see more critical writing and fewer pages of advertising at the end of the magazine. However, I already get Florida T+L so I knew what to expect: lots of pretty pictures and an occasional article out of the ordinary.
