EXCELLENT PRODUCTION...A Really Unique Gem,
By Firebrand (Woonsocket, RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Caribe Gardel (Audio CD)
I am an avid Salsa music collector with a discerning taste for the style. As a musician, I am also aware of what constitutes classy music. I was not expecting the type of high-quality musical production that this CD delivers. Jerry Rivera has given us an Afro-Caribbean re-interpretation of classics from Argentinian tango in a way that is very pleasing and refreshing to the ear. My hat off to his singing and especially to whoever did the arrangements. EXCELLENT work on the harmonies, and brass arrangements. Such a refreshing break from the same "old" salsa or the new "erotic salsa". Definitely one of the best of 2007.
I wholeheartedly endorse this CD. You will not be able to put it down...it's one of those CDs!

The Jerry Rivera CD, Caribe Gardel, have the best music of Carlos Gardel. Yira, Yira is by the far the best song of the CD but all the tracks are very good. This CD should be in anybodys collection. The transition from Tango to Salsa is amazing.

Jerry finally shows off his true potential in this album. Caribe Gardel is a work of art. The arrangements are different and Jerry shows a passion and enthusiasm for the music, something missing from his recent works. This album is a sure fire hit as Jerry returns to salsa. On an interesting note this album was recorded abroad not in the US. It's distributed by EMI which leads me to believe that Jerry's relationship with Sony BMG might be over. In which case might be good news. Sony pushed Jerry to sing Baladas Jerry always wanted to sing salsa. Check out the song Yira, Yira.
Great album, a breath of fresh air in the salsa world. Highly recommended.
