Excellent resource for proper care of your fine items, August 3, 2001
This review is from: Caring for Antiques (Paperback)
Whether you are a serious collector, have just inherited something from your Aunt Agnes, or simply want to learn more about the proper care and display of fine items, this book is a must have.
Very useful, everyday tips for the cleaning, storage, and handling of your cherished items are included. Furniture, glass, ceramics, paintings, sculpture, books, textiles, metals, arms and armor, music boxes, scientific equipment and anything else you could possibly want is here.
For serious collectors, the advice on proper restoration is invaluable. The authors let you know what could be, should be, and must be fixed, or left alone as the case may be. For those who just want to properly care for the family heirlooms in order to pass them along to the next generation, the advice on proper cleaning, storage and display is equally valuable.
Sotheby's is the world's oldest fine arts auctioneer, and each contributor to the book is an expert conservator in the topic he or she discusses. Despite their impressive expertise, the writing style is clear and informative. They really want you to understand how to care for your items.
