Book Description

0941016919 978-0941016919 December 1992 1st
Brilliant Swedish artist Carl Larsson's story, according to editor John Z. Lofgren, "is about a man and his soul, his roots, his friends, and his enemies. Important in art history, it also offers a fresh look at the cultural scene in Scandinavia before and after the turn of the century. Highly articulate, Carl Larsson is honest with himself and with the reader. It is easy to identify with the characters as Carl Larsson relates his journey through life."

About the Author

Carl Larsson (1853–1919) rejected the dark and gloomy atmosphere of academic history painters and embraced a brighter, simpler approach. Many of his paintings depicted his home and family life, becoming the model for a new ideal. His work was cherished in his own time, and today as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The artist CARL LARSSON's statements, May 7, 2009
By
Dag Stomberg (St. Andrews, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carl Larsson: The Autobiography of Sweden's Most Beloved Artist (Paperback)
This famous and well beloved artist's autobiography completed shortly
before his death was published in 1931 (twelve years later) it came as a giant surprise to the Swedish public.

Here was a man successful because of harmonious (picture perfect) family
portraits who unburdens his soul.

When his pessimistic moods became evident in parts of this book it
was a surprise to many. This book brings Larsson's words to the
English-reading world for better understanding.
