4.0 out of 5 stars Carley's Song, January 17, 2002
This review is from: Carley's Song (Paperback)
I really enjoyed reading Carley's Song because Patricia Sprinkle did a great job of explaining how Carley felt throughout her experiences. I had already read The Remember Box, the first book in the series, and it was a really good book, so I knew I had to read Carley's Song. But I really disliked the character Freda and how she used Carley all the time, and how Carley just went along with it. I really liked her little cousin Abby though, but it seemed as if she always cheered everyone around her up. The book all-in-all was great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Carley, April 3, 2002

This is the sequel to The Remember Box and was very good. As I said about The Remember Box, it is a different writing style than most I have read, but very good. It reminded me somewhat of The Mitford Series by Jan Karon, which I loved!

What a wonderful story. I loved Carley and her delightful cousin Abby who didn't have any predjuice but only saw good in everyone. Cantankerous Mrs. Cameron was really a good person and I cried when she died. Wonderful characters, great story, a great read. Mary

5.0 out of 5 stars Devastated, August 3, 2005

This review is from: Carley's Song (Paperback)
I read the The Remember Box (the prequel to Carley's Song) because my mom was reading it and she wanted me to read it too. Too busy to even think these days, it's the last thing I wanted to do, but didn't want to disappointment mom. Because my mind is always running a hundred miles a minute, the book was just killing me at first. I remembered all the great books I've read -- how so many start out "slow" -- and decided to stick with it. SO GLAD I DID. The Remember Box and Carley's Song are absolutely two of my favorite books ever.
Why did I put "devastated" as the title of my review. Because I just finished reading Carley's Song a few minutes ago and now it's over!
I have ten books on my "TO READ" list, but I am positive I will start The Remember Box all over again and not stop until I read the last page of Carley's Song (again).
I love these characters. Patricia Sprinkle makes you wish you lived in Job's Corner.
I haven't loved a book(s) THIS much since Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery!
Thanks Patricia! Awesome, awesome books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Carley's Song is Great, July 27, 2002

I really enjoyed this sequal to The Remember Box. I found the book an interesting and easy read. Sprinkle's characters are believeable and engaging. I enjoyed her depiction of Carley's gradual move into the challenges and feelings of adolescence.

I also enjoyed learning about N. Carolina attitudes and culture of the 1950's, and the characters' perspectives on the Korean War and the Cold War. Having grown up during a similar time in a different part of the world, I found it interesting to read Sprinkle's description of air raid drills and the realistic fears of an adolescent, in light of the views and events she heard from others or from the media.

Like another reviewer, this book reminded me of The Mitford Series, although I must say that I enjoyed Sprinkle's books much more.
