Soundtrack to the 1993 movie starring Al Pacino and Sean Penn, featuring a collection of Soul classics, '70s Disco and a few Latin and '90s Dance hits thrown in for good measure. 11 tracks including irresistible cuts from Rozalla, The Hues Corporation, Marc Anthony, Labelle, Cheryl Lynn, Ray Barretto, Santana and many others. The movie's menacing and dark overtones do not creep into this fine selection of upbeat tracks that are guaranteed to get your toes tapping. Sony/BMG.

Are you guys kidding me? Half of the movie's soundtrack is missing! "Mi Gente" by Hector Lavoe, "Che Che Cole" by Willie Colon, "Muneca" by Eddie Palmieri, "Vieja Luna" by Celia Cruz & Johnny Pacheco, "Abuelita" by Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe, "Alma con Alma" by Ray Barretto & Adalberto Santiago, "El Todopoderoso" by Hector Lavoe and the best song of the whole freaking movie: "Para los Rumberos" by Tito Puente. What happened? Whose pockets were not lined, who wasn't paid off? This soundtrack offering is a joke! Get the Mambo Kings soundtrack, if you want good latin stuff. They are lucky I gave them 1 star. I couldn't give this less.

As compilation albums go, some soundtracks are hit and miss--others strike so close to the bullseye, it's frustrating when they're off by a small margin.

My pet gripe in this case? Replacing Joe Cocker's version of 'You Are So Beautiful' with Billy Preston.

Aside from that, what you've got is a virtual A1 collection of top disco classics, including 'Rock the Boat' and my favourite on the album, 'Lady Marmalade'. Particularly impressive since hearing the vocals...of Pink, Christina, et al and their cover version which is beyond 3rd rate.

the mixture of various disco blends well with the movie, however the inclusion of marc anthony in the sountrack made it complete. this talented artist recorded this song early on in his beautiful, well-deserved career but his talent and crystal vocals are evident even here.
