5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Carlo Maria Giulini conducts Mozart Requiem K 626 (EMI Laser DRM) (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful recording of possibly the finest piece of music ever written. Though not all written by Mozart of course I simply marvel at the beauty of Requiem and the eternal Lacrimosa - it is as if an angel itself were writing notes on the paper. The delicacy of "solo me" at the end of Tuba Mirum and the power of the Confutatis make this my favourite recording of the Requiem - not too fast and not too slow. The weaving of the voices together (Donath, Ludwig, Tear and Lloyd) is magestic. Buy it!

The Requiem was Mozart's last -- albeit unfinished -- composition. It is a masterpiece. Carlo Maria Giulini was one of the half dozen or so greatest conductors of the era of recorded music. His performance of Mozart's Requiem -- ably abetted by fine soloists and the great Philharmonia Orchestra in its prime -- is also a masterpiece, bringing out all of this great works nobility, grandeur, and beauty. Unfortunately, this superb performance was unavailable on CD for several years. It may well become unavailable again. I beg you to buy this great recording while you can.
