The renovation and conversion of the Castelvecchio, Verona, for use as a museum in 1964 was Carlo Scarpa's most important work. It demonstrates Scarpa's outstanding skills both in overall plan and concept for the renovation of Castelvecchio as a museum, and in every detail of the works as executed. The author, here traces the initial ideas as represented by Scarpa's beautiful yet incisive sketches, through the various stages of work to building completion. Numerous drawings by Scarpa are supplemented by Murphy's own superb measured line drawings, which accurately show the full realisation of Scarpa's building as it stands today.
