5.0 out of 5 stars An Authoritative Chronicle of a True Marine Hero
The exploits of Carlos Hathcock, the Marines' most famous sniper, are well known by most readers of military non-fiction. Charles Henderson's Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills was a bestseller and a great read. Whitefeather, however, gives a more intimate, complete, and informed look at Hathcock.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not THE white feather book
I got this one but wished I had gotten the Henderson book. This book has much of the historical background which, for me, was not nearly as interesting as the actual combat stories. May still check out the Henderson book. The few combat stories were good though.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Authoritative Chronicle of a True Marine Hero, February 20, 2003

Whitefeather was written by Norman and Roy Chandler, who were not only personal friends of Hathcock, but extremely knowledgeable regarding sniping, as evidenced by their spectacular Death From Afar series. The result is a book that no other authors could have produced.

Anyone who is interested in Marine Corps sniping, rifles, vietnam, or general military history should not be without this book. It would be a classic if it were better known and less expensive, but rest assured, it's worth every penny you pay.

This is a tribute biography that covers Gunny Hathcock's entire life. Several of his now legendary missions are covered in detail. This gallant Marine was perhaps the most lethal combat shooter in American military history and yet, he was a gentle, and altogether decent human being. The story of Carlos Hathcock left me with three regrets. I regret that I never met him. I regret that I never served with him on a mission and I regret that he didn't teach me how to shoot. The photo on the very last page is worth ten thousand words.

I have read all the books on Carlos Hathcock. He was and still is a inspiration to Military, and civillians alike. I thought this book had more of Carlos's true felling, you could almost imagine him telling the stories directly to you. I truely enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end. It would have been an honor to be in his unit.

Much has been written about the legendary Carlos Hathcock, a genuine hero of the Vietnam War. Roy Chandler has produced a fitting memorial to Hathcock with this beautifully presented biography. Profits from the book benefit Hathcock's family - I hope many thousands of copies are sold.

Being a recent "white feather" "Hathcock" fan, this book was excellent. I really appreciated the Large print, easy to follow format and the authors first hand accounts added a taste of originality to the book. As far as the story... It was great. A true Hero in every sense.

I've been wanting to get this for my husband for awhile. He is a big Carlos Hathcock fan. He wish he could have met him. His dream was and is to be a sniper. Anyone that loves real stories about people in the military would love this book.

IT WAS THE BEST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ ON THE SUBJECT. BUT YOU MUST READ "MARINE SNIPER" AND "SILENT WARRIOR" FIRST. THIS BOOK CONCLUDES THE TRILOGY.

An outstanding biography of a truly remarkable man. Having trained at his Police Sniper School this book brought back memories of what a humble, professional he was. Always a smile and always encouraging. This book also brings out all the qualities that made him the ultimate man hunter as well as a total gentleman. Anyone who admires Gunny needs to own this book.
