Following Carlos and the Squash Plant (1993) and Carlos and the Cornfield (1995), this third bilingual book featuring Carlos finds him tangling with a skunk in an attempt to impress his friend Gloria and learning that "you can't believe everything you hear." Carlos is older in this book, and the story is beyond the level of its picture-book format and audience. However, quality bilingual books are hard to come by, and Carlos' adventures growing up continue to be comical and endearing. We speak Spanish and want our children to learn, so we purchased this book. The story is fun and the pictures are nice. We read it to them in Spanish, and they read it in English, as it has both languages. Our hopes are that when they become familiar with the story, they will read it in Spanish too!
