Got this for it's health benefits, which is hard to know for sure if it's working. However, I can tell you about the obvious thing: taste. It does have a lemony smell & a slight lemony taste. While the taste is fine, it's thick oiliness was NOT popular with my 4 kids(nor me). So what I do each day is pour the dose into a medicine cup, then fill the rest of the way with any drink. They all take it fine then. I've added it to OJ, apple juice, grape juice & even kool-aid. I myself take the adult version, so I can vouch for the taste, too. One note: I can find NO difference in the kids' version & the adult, except that the kid's dosage is not listed on the adult bottle. The ingredient/mineral/vitamin quantity is exactly the same per tsp in both versions. Save yourself the money if you plan to take the oil too, and just buy one bottle of whichever one's on sale/cheapest. Kids ages 2-4 take 1/4tsp, 5-12 takes 1/2 tsp, 12+ takes 1 tsp (all after meal).

I am so pleasantly surprised after trying this product! I was really grossed-out at the idea when buying this, but I decided to make my kids take it anyway :-) When I got the bottle, I opened it not knowing what I would smell. In the past whenever I have taken "omega 3" and fish oil caplets, I have been so sick from the recurring fish after-taste that I really couldn't commit to taking them. I was worried it would simply be a lemony flavor trying to cover up that awful fishy taste. After reading the reviews, I went on faith of the other reviewers and ordered this product. The smell is light and lemony. I admit I made my 9 year old daughter take it first - she had no preconceived notions about it having a fishy taste, or even what it was for that matter - I just told her it was a healthy vitamin lemon oil. Went down no problem, no yuck face, I was amazed! I really kept watching her to see if she would say something about a fish taste. Nothing! What they don't know won't hurt them! So this morning, I laid out a spoon at each of their spots at the table, along with their gummy vitamins. Matter of factly said "we are taking this every morning with our vitamins, from now on" My 5 year old looked a bit suspicious, but I tipped it in his mouth with a smile and handed him the gummies. Not a single complaint. OMGoodness. How easy. After they left for school, I tried it myself b/c I was really more worried about my own preconceived "mental aversions" and I have to honestly say, I can do this. It is much easier that swallowing the vitamins and supplements I take every day. Mind over matter! I am so happy to have this in out diets, living in upstate NY, we are outdoors year round, but in the winter we are covered head to foot in clothing. Will happily reorder!Read more ›

Cod liver oil is akin to a magic potion or the fountain of youth as far as I'm concerned - lol. I had been reading about the benefits of fish oil for years (especially as it pertains to brain development in children) but was concerned about high mercury levels or other toxins so decided to wait it out until I could find a brand that I felt comfortable with. After trying Futurebiotics Omega 3 fish oil and having very good results, I researched a few other companies. Carlon Labs came up in my research and I am more than pleased. Both I and my daughter take the Carlson Labs Norwegian Cod Liver Oil (Lemon) and the benefits are awesome -- -- I've noticed a better mood, my thinking is sharper, most of my past joint aches (knee) are gone and there is less swelling, my skin is less dry AND I've noticed that my 2 yr olds cognitive skills have sharpened since taking it. There is no fishy taste or aftertaste. I wouldn't say it is enjoyable to take (it is oil after all), but the lemon is not overpowering and makes it easier to get it down.

I did not feel comfortable giving my child cod liver oil during infancy (it still could contain toxins that may be harder for an infant to flush out), but she has since passed a certain age threshold so I feel the benefits out way the risks for her ongoing brain development. Highly recommended!

I totally agree with reviewer J. Lynd about the content. I am actually buying the kids version for myself. I used the adult one throughout my pregnancy and a few months afterwards. Doctors and nurses were amazed at how well my pregnancy was going (minimum nausea, all my tests were coming back perfect, no swelling, no complications, baby's growth impeccable) and they (including my obgyn and midwives) kept asking what I was doing to help my pregnancy. I told them cod liver oil. And of course, they didn't believe me because all of their parents made them take it when they were young, so now they despise even the thought of it. But, then I told them I don't just buy any crap that's sold at the local drug store, but I did research first and will only buy Carlson's liquid form after finding out that high quality cod liver oil helps with the baby's nervous system and brain development. (Of course, my obgyn didn't know to tell me this...) This was very important to me because I'm in my 30's and the medical industry is always warning about the risks of children being born with defects increases linearly as the mother increases in age (and my age is approaching the danger zone!)

So, several months later when my 1st born was approaching 8 months old and I was running low, I went to the local health store to get my fix of cod liver oil. But the store was out of the adult version. So I waited, went back several days later and they were still out! Then, I went to Whole Foods and they were out of the smaller bottle but had the larger bottle for $60. No bueno - sorry but I'm too much of a miser to pay that much for cod liver oil. So, I ended up buying the kids version after comparing the labels.
