Formula has changed.,

This review is from: Carlson Super 1000mg Cod Liver Oil, 250 Softgels (Health and Beauty)
Carlson's formula for these appears to have changed since I bought them earlier in the year (~March 2010). Label no longer says the Vitamin A & Vitamin D are "(from cod liver oil)", and the amounts of them are higher. This indicates to me they are supplementing artificial vitamins into the cod liver oil. This degrades the nutritional value. I returned mine back to Amazon.

I got this because a friend told me that it would help me heal better/faster after some fractures and surgery to my leg and I think that it contributed to my recovery, and when I used the oil from the gelcaps directly on cuts/scars - it was amazing how quickly they healed over! I keep using it because my dentist says that she can see an improvement in my gums. And, it has omega 3's too. My cholesterol levels are always good when the dr tests them, so there's enough "evidence" for me to know that taking cod liver oil daily will help my overall health. I use this brand because the cod liver oil from Norway & Iceland is the best quality. If you're wondering whether or not to try it - I'd suggest that you take it for a few months before your next cholesterol check and see if your numbers improve. Also, anyone with concerns about their teeth & gums would do well to take it -- and if you aren't concerned about your gums, remember that the bacteria in your mouth can cause/inflame issues with the heart - so why take the chance?

Buy "Lightly Lemon" instead of "Super 1000mg",
By Joe (Parker, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carlson Super 1000mg Cod Liver Oil, 250 Softgels (Health and Beauty)
Here are the supplement Facts per soft gel for Cod Liver Oil "Lightly Lemon" and the Cod Liver Oil with "Low Vitamin A":Vitamin A: 150 IU (3% Daily Value) Vitamin D: 80 IU (20% Daily Value) Vitamin E: 2 IU (7% Daily Value) Omega-3: 230mg EPA: 85mg DHA: 100mg If you buy the Carlson Cod Liver Oil "Super 1000mg", be aware that it has high contents of Vitamins A, D, and E which can be toxic if you take too much: Vitamin A: 2000 IU (40% Daily Value) Vitamin D: 250 IU (63% Daily Value) Vitamin E: 10 IU (33% Daily Value) Omega-3: 240mg EPA: 90mg DHA: 120mg I believe the "Lightly Lemon" taste the best plus it has low Vitamin A and it gives you about the same amount of Omega-3. If you buy the "Super 1000mg" which Carlson recommends to take 5 soft gels per day, that means you will have 200% Vitamin A which is not good for your health. In my opinion, by swallowing the soft gel with water might be better than chewing the soft gel because the Cod Liver Oil is better absorbed in your stomach instead of the mouth. Also on the bottom of the bottle says best used by 2015, I bought this in 2011, so expiration is about 4 to 5 years.

Growing up on the coast of Norway, drinking cod liver oil was something I did on a daily basis. The taste is absolutely ghastly, but that was the price of getting pure goodness in the body. My mother swore by it, and claimed it had kept her from getting a cold since she started taking it. She took her spoon of oil every day, until the day she died.Well, as I grew older and got my own will, I stopped taking the oil, the taste was just too horrible. But I saw that while my mother never had a cold and never got the flu, I would get both ever year. So I started looking for a substitute to drinking the oil. I landed on soft-gels. Unfortunately, with most brands you have to take two pills a day, and well, I need to take the oil to remind me to take the oil, apparently. So I forgot it. It is also expensive. So the years went by and I stopped thinking about it. A year or so ago, my doctor suggested I take supplements, as I am a poor eater (if I bother eating at all). I went on Amazon and purchased vitamins and supplements and whatnots, and I thought to myself that maybe they have found a way to put the daily need of cod liver oil into one pill instead of two. Lo and behold, this is it! I got it as well as the other stuff I got. It is the only one I still manage to take. I haven't had a cold since I started taking these, so I am happy about that. I will continue taking these.

I was using the Nordic Naturals Cod Liver oil capsules for a long time, however, these are a great inexpensive alternative. I could only detect the fishiness once and awhile if I burp later but it's not bad at all, and I am not a fishy fan. Try these out!

This brand was described as the best source of Cod Liver Oil. I guess no one can know that for sure if you can't do your own testing, but it was delivered quickly, fair price and the taste is only apparent for minutes after taking the capsule and I will re-order this brand again.

This product claims the vitamin A and D are from Cod Liver Oil but listed in the "other ingredients" are retinyl palmitate and cholecalciferol...which are NOT from cod liver oil. I am very disappointed in this deceptive product.

I've used brands costing 2-3 times as much and found this to help my dry eye just as well and I didn't get sick or feel ill from its use. Good find.

The product is well known as one of the best fish oils available. This particular package is particularly cost effective. What's not to like?
