The giants of the Carmelite tradition, especially Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross, can sometimes be difficult to fully understand and appreciate, at least in my experience. It helps to have a competent guide, and this book provides several. In the centuries that have passed since those great Spanish mystics first wrote, many people have pondered and cherished their words, and the essays in this book reflect that lived tradition in a most encouraging and approachable way.
