4.0 out of 5 stars Author's Comments on Carmella's Quest, February 15, 2009
This review is from: Carmella's Quest: Taking On College Sight Unseen (Perfect Paperback)
Since I am the author of this book, I am not an objective source so won't go into rating it, etc. I want to provide information and perspective for those interested in this book. Carmella's Quest is the story of my first year at a small liberal arts college (North Greenville College/University) in the upstate of SC. I describe my struggles for independence and self-sufficiency as a young woman who is blind, academic challenges and successes, friendships and romantic relationships, and other ups and downs of that year. Events take place in the 1994-95 academic year. The book is Christian but not preachy and parents can feel comfortable allowing their adolescent daughters to read it. It will appeal to other readers who happen to be blind, but I believe young women from various backgrounds can relate to my desires to fit in, have a social life, decide on career goals, and so on. I believe Carmella's Quest is an interesting read with enough variety to keep readers entertained and a range of serious and more light-hearted experiences. It is a straight-forward and easy read that gives readers a glimpse into a very important part of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carmella's Quest - Inspiring!!!, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Carmella's Quest: Taking On College Sight Unseen (Perfect Paperback)
Carmella's Quest is a wonderful story of a young lady's journey into an unknown world. Although Carmella's experience was literally "sight unseen", her story is one that many, many people can find inspiration in...life always gives us "sight unseen" lessons and how we chose to learn from them is the true test. Carmella's book can inspire any college bound person about to make this new journey into the unknown "sight unseen". I could relate intimately with the mother/daughter moments and laughed and cried as I remembered my own experiences with my sighted daughter when she went away to college. What an amazing, inspiring, story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sight unseen is a metaphor, February 16, 2009
This review is from: Carmella's Quest: Taking On College Sight Unseen (Perfect Paperback)
Few of us would be willing to accept what life throws at us sight unseen. However author Carmella Broome does that on a daily basis and has written a delightful book about her experience entering college blind. Literally that is.

Sight unseen is a metaphor for more things merely being blind.

This book is not just for blind people but anyone who has struggled with finding the balance between independence and relying of family or friends. It is well written with a light and hopeful at times cheerful tone.
