A Fine Dorotheus,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Carmen Astrologicum (Paperback)
Astrology Classics has been doing us the great favor or reprinting old classics that have either been out of print for many years or have never before been generally available to astrologers. Dorotheus of Sidon's CARMEN ATROLOGICUM is one of he oldest astrological texts in existence. The editor, David Roell, has made Dorotheus especially readable by re-setting the text in an attractive easy-on-the eyes font, but still keeping the original formatting with line lengths and pages identical to an earlier 1976 edition. There are a number of attractive tables and an index to the text.
For this edition the original translator's (David Pingree) Latin preface has been translated into English, and all charts are presented in modern format, ordered by date. The editor has noted how the actual charts differ from those given in the text, a very helpful addition for astrologers. There are also added tables of triplicities and terms, as well as the Dodecatemoria (12 fold division of signs). This edition of CARMEN ASTROLOGICUM is a must for anyone who wants to study and understand the origins of Hellenistic astrology. Hellenistic astrology forms the foundation row of building blocks for today's Tropical astrology. If you're interested in additional difficult-to-find astrological classics, check this web site, the home of this edition of Dorotheus: [...]

A must for every professional astrologer,
By Lemich Drakkar "porphyrus" (Lausanne, Suisse) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carmen Astrologicum (Paperback)
Do you want to know how the astrologers of the Antiquity interpretated a chart? Did their methods differ from those developped in the 20th century by humanistic or transpersonal astrologers? Was its content comparable the corpus of the astrology of India.? Can their methods be used in the 21st century? Did astrology make real progress after the writings of Dorotheus? It is at times interesting for a practicioner to raise such questions. There are nowadays, after Dane Rudhyar, so few good theoretical astrologers... Highly recommandable!
