4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fun and Fun!, May 16, 2002
This review is from: Carmen Miranda (Cocktail Hour Series) (Audio CD)
Carmen Miranda was the queen of what she did, and that was singing the latin rhythms. Listening to these CD's, I am surprised how many of the songs are familiar, from both movies and those songs stolen for Bugs Bunny to make fun of Carmen. The tunes are infectious - they make you want to grab a fruit hat and dance along. This is one of life's guilty pleasures - just putting on a collection of music like this and just let yourself go. Great music to just chill out with. The only complaint is the lack of liner notes really does not do justice to help describe Ms. Miranda's role in the music world in her day. Otherwise - great!

Carmen Miranda was one-of-a kind, a truly unique entertainer, there was never anybosdy like her and there will never be another one like her(tho' some women have woefully, inadequatley tried!). I have a lot of these "Cocktail Hour" releases of a lot of old artists from a bygone day, they usually deliver pretty well, although they never have any liner notes, which would add to the experience of listening to them a lot. This is a fun CD, you can tell she had a great time being Ms. Carmen Miranda! And as far as I can tell, a few of the songs (I See I See, The Matador)actually have the Andrews Sisters singing backup as well!

This review is from: Carmen Miranda (Cocktail Hour Series) (Audio CD)
Once called the "Ambassadress of good will from Latin America", Carmen Miranda is certainly still "the Brazilian Bombshell", and the Latin American icon she represents. The music in this album is an excellent recopilation of her best songs, including also those that made her famous in the film industry. She was called also the "Queen of Samba" and her famous trade mark of her Bahiana costume goes along with the cover of this collection. If you like history, music and Latin America memorabilia, this is certainly a package that will bring you hours of memories and entertainment. When you listen to her music, you will remember her funny accent, her beautiful smile, her colorful costumes and whimsical hats. She was an epitome of the "funny girl".
