This book is a little lame... it's was on a lot of people's list so I thought I would check it out. It's way boring - I finished it in a short morning and grazed at that. But maybe it's a taste thing. The sex was just okay but just barely. it said it was bdsm but please.... only if your 13. but it wasn't a bad book... as in it was not the worst I've read... just...

This review is from: A Carnal Agreement (Paperback)
While attending an engagement ball for one of her old classmates, whom she dislikes intensely, Cassandra encounters a man she won't soon forget. Neither will the rest of the ton after his few words of `congratulations' for the engaged couple send shockwaves throughout the entire ballroom.

Seven months later, Cassandra learns that not only has her despicable husband managed to get himself killed, but his will stipulates that she must have a child in order for her to inherit. Reddington never consummated the marriage, there isn't any possibility of her being pregnant. Her husband's death occurred in France. His solicitor and valet are the only other people who are aware of his demise. They both agree to keep quiet about Reddington's death for three months - allowing her the opportunity to fulfill the terms of the will. After all, nowhere in the will does it say that the child has to be Reddington's.

Mark Foxwood is opting to winter at his estate in Northamberly. He's spent months trying to forget Katryn, her betrayal, and how he'd made such a scene at her engagement ball. He fully intends to remain celibate during his time away from London, but realistically he knows he'd never be able to go for months without the pleasure of a woman's company. His vow of celibacy comes to an abrupt end when Cassandra visits him at his home requesting his assistance in helping her to thwart the stipulations of her diabolical husband's will. He can't possibly refuse to assist a lady in need, can he? When Cassandra is shot while returning to his home, Mark realizes that she is in danger, but from whom and why?

Silvia Violet's A CARNAL AGREEMENT is one hot regency novel. If you're picking this one up expecting dandies and fainting couches you're in for a real surprise, though you may require the fainting couch during some of the more explicit scenes. Both Cassandra and Mark are open and honest characters. I loved reading about them. I also love Cassandra's adventurous sister, Amanda, and Mark's friend, Rhys Stranton. They're fun characters that intrigued me and added a pleasurable element to the story because you're never quite sure what they would do or say next. In addition to the unforgettable characters, and exciting love story, readers also get the pleasure of joining in the suspense as Cassandra and Mark set about uncovering all the details and people involved in the horrifying activities that Cassandra's husband had been involved in before his murder. The suspense alone is well worth reading this book. It's exciting, completely unexpected, and will keep you glued to the pages late into the night.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Carnal Agreement, July 11, 2008
This review is from: A Carnal Agreement (Paperback)
Cassandra Braxton has been given the news that an unknown enemy has murdered her husband, Viscount Reddington, in France. Even from the grave he is thwarting Cassandra; his will states that the only way she can inherit his holdings is if she bears a child. Since Cassandra is still untouched, that might be a bit tough. Cassandra comes up with a plan and it involves her new neighbor, Mark Foxwood.

Mark Foxwood, tired of London's games, travels to a home given to him by his father. Licking his wounds from a love affair gone wrong, Mark does not want company or to be bothered. His peace is disrupted by the arrival of Viscountess Reddington who proposes a scheme that peaks Mark's interest like nothing ever before. Agreeing to her plan, Mark invites her to become his guest for three months.

Three months might be too long if an unknown assailant has their way. Cassandra is in danger and has no one to turn to but the man she has just asked to seduce her.

A Carnal Agreement by Silvia Violet surprised me. Fully expecting bondage and submission, what I got was a beautifully written and intriguing historical novel. I found myself entranced by the story and sat enthralled throughout the book. Mark Foxwood, for all his bravado, is actually a teddy bear where Cassandra's concerned; I loved how he loves her. Cassandra is a most charming lady, especially when thinking of ways to get around Mark's edicts. She made me smile.

A Carnal Agreement was not like any novel I have ever read by Silvia Violet. This story shows her versatility as a writer and I simply thought it very entertaining and an all around good read.

I read a lot of books and have never felt compelled to write a review until I read this book. I always thought I would write a review for a book I loved not for one I could not stand...the plot was insipid, the heroine extremely annoying (I wanted to shoot her myself)...about the only thing the book has going for it are the erotic scenes and these even become tiresome after a time and that is a hard to accomplish for this genre...save your money and read Beth Kery or Maggie Casper instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars romance woven with adventure, June 16, 2009

This review is from: A Carnal Agreement (Paperback)
I finished this book in one sitting (254 pages long and not densely printed) as it managed to keep me glued to the pages in anticipation of what will happen next.

Cassandra married the despicable Viscount Reddington out of obligation to her family, silenly enduring a loveless marriage which was never consumated as her husband had a preference for kink. His death as his life was shady, but the will stipulated that Cassandra would inherit only if she provided an heir. Obviously her husband wished to disown her but Cassandra is determined not to let this pass since the only reason she married him was to help her family. She will keep his death secret until she gets herself pregnant. But who could be a likely candidate?

Mark Foxwood has retreated to his country estate to lick his wounds after the woman he loved to distraction jilted him for another. The sexually licentious Katryn continuous to provoke him despite her engagement and upcoming wedding. So Mark opts for self reflection and celibacy away from the lures of London. However, no sooner has he made this resolution than Cassandra arrives with her preposterous proposition. Faced with her beauty and allure he throws all his pious intentions out of the window. After all it is for a lofty cause, to right an injustice.

Once they establish that in order for the plan to bear fruit intercourse must be frequent Cassandra moves in with Mark. An attempt on her life however, leaves another snag. Who wants her dead and why? Mark is determined to protect Cassandra who is headstrong and at time reckless. Mark's investigations will lead him to the underworld and the illicit dealings Cassandra's husband was involved in.

The more the story develops the more the feelings of the two main characters grow, but serpent-like Katryn lurks out there ready to spill her poison as she hopes to ensare Mark whose passion she still craves.

I really enjoyed the tension. the romance and the combustible chemistry between Cassandra and Mark. It's a great read for curling up on that favourite chair when you wish to put all concerns behind.

I had never read any of Silvia Violets books but I love regency books and gave it a shot! Man did I get my money's worth! The passion between the two main characters was fenominal! The books had good pacing and enough details without getting bogged down in too many! The story also had enough hot scenes to make your toes tingle without being all about the sex! Awesome read! I went back and immediately bought book two Amanda's book! Thank you Ms. Violet!! I look forward to more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly Wonderful Tail, July 15, 2011

Wonderful sensual story. The cover does not match the story. It was fantastic to see how Mark draws out Cassandra's desires. The action/thriller aspect kept me turning the pages as fast as I could.

I'll read it again, which I almost never do.

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read!, May 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book was good and held my interest. Enjoyed the storyline and the characters. However, I did find Cassandra to be more headstrong like a teenager girl, stomping her foot with determination that didn't consider her consequences. I found the romance to be sweet and well written and not over the top as warned when buying
the book. While stating I enjoyed the book, it is not one I would hold on to so I could read again.

I liked this novel cause it was a bit different from all the romances I've read: the plot is almost always the same but here you can find the heroin which is indipendent and forces the rules to obtain what she needs - really entertaining
