4.0 out of 5 stars Carnal Instinct May 14, 2012

received book from author for the purpose of an honest review

Another great installment to the Ghost Cats series. In this book Fiona LaSalle has been dumped by her boyfriend after he stole all her money so she goes to work at a wildlife preserve to get out of debt. While there she meets a lion named King who happens to be a shape shifter. King, otherwise known as Cade when he's human, knows that Fiona is his mate, he just has to make her see that.

This book had some great sex scenes and good character development. This installment was a little longer and then the first and I still wanted more. I enjoyed the interaction with the characters from the first book and meeting some new characters in this one. I would have like more in the way of conversation and less inner monologue.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more in this series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Run for the sake of your eyes! April 29, 2011
By Yasmin

"Carnal Instinct" is by far the worst book I have read by this author, and I'm surprised because I really enjoyed the "Lords of the Var" and "Dragon Lord" series.

So, where do I start? Well, for one I thought the dialogue was like reading a script from a porn-- 'I want to watch you drink me down'... really? really?!? Who speaks likes this in real life?

Next, the 'heroine' Fiona is ridiculously annoying. She gets taken advantage of by her boyfriend, has to go back to her father and even after being with someone who takes advantage of her, she's willing to go into the woods with a stranger? really? really?!? I get that she's trying to be spontaneous, but you just had everything you own stolen by someone you thought loved you, and yet you're willing to go into the woods with a complete stranger who could possibly rape you, murder you or steal the little bit you have left? Maybe if the author had given me a real reason to understand this urge other than--- he smells good and he's gorgeous, I need this, perhaps I wouldn't have felt she was a complete moron.

The ending was the absolute worse, which is crazy because I would never have thought the ending could be any worse than the already horrible beginning and middle, but it was! There's a "twist", I won't ruin it for those who are interested in reading this novel, but I will tell you it too was frackin' terrible! I will say though, since it is a romance novel and readers should know what to expect, that the hero, Cade, and Fiona found that they loved one another at first sight, no words necessary. Might've been sweet... if I cared.

Aaaaah, I'm so disappointed in this novel. Read something else by this author, she really does have the potential for a really good story...its just not this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Story Had Great Potential January 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This story had great potential. You have a quirky heroine, Fiona LaSalle, who is forced to work in a Wild Life Rescue and Preserve because she has been monetarily cut off by her father. She is penniless because her boyfriend cleaned her out. You listen to her venting about her bad luck with a lion she has named "King". Fiona shares her secrets and fantasies with King unaware to her that he is a real person. Throughout her diatribe you witness the lion reacting to her by either snorting or roaring at something she said that he did not like. Like when she tells King she is going out and getting laid with the first man she comes across. King goes ballistic and almost get Fiona fired.

This is where the train stops and I get off. King turns into Cade, follows Fiona to a restaurant, walks in stares at her, and.... She leaves with him to a no man's land forest and have HOT SEX!! No question asked--not even his name....What?!! I think of myself as an open and flexible reader, however, this was a stretch. The author does not give the reader anything to understand why Fiona would just leave with a complete stranger other than internal dialogue: "This is meant to be. Go with him. Be with him", and pheromones. I was able to recover from this mishap in the story because Fiona is Cade's destined mate and it was interesting to watch Cade try to court Fiona in human form. There is also an unexpected twist at the end of the story but it is lost because the plot was not smooth. A lot was left to be desired..as I stated earlier...this story had so much potential.
