5.0 out of 5 stars Great classic live album from Renaissance

3.0 out of 5 stars So why are you buying this album?
I have every classic Renaissance album/CD they've done, including ones that cover the selections on the Live at Carnegie Hall CDs. After listening to the Live at Carnegie CDs, I've gone away unimpressed versus the non-live renditions. That is, in every case, I prefer the album versions to the ones covered on this Live edition (perhaps the Scheherazade suite comes close...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great classic live album from Renaissance, October 11, 2009

This review is from: Live at Carnegie Hall/ The Deluxe Anniversary Edition (2 CD) (Original Recording Remastered) (Audio CD)
Renaissance was one of my favorite bands of the mid and late 70s. This album, recorded with the New York Philharmonic captured them at the artistic peak of their career and contains much of their best material. Best known as one of the earlier progressive rock bands to combine elements of classical and rock. While bands like Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer did the same and leaned more towards the rock side, Renaissance tended to lean more toward the classical side. The highlight of the band was the amazing beautiful voice of Annie Haslam. It has been said that her vocal range covered 5 octaves. Their style of music worked very well with an orchestra, I was lucky to see them perform twice with the Rochester Philharmonic in the late 70s. Their live shows were phenomenal and this recording captures them at their best. The remastered CD is a real treat, and the quality is quite good. It was nice to finally have the CD since my original album from 1976 is showing it's age. One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands.

In my opinion , this is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. The sound quality is fantastic and this is Renaissance at their best. I highly reccomend this album.

I have been a Reanaissance fan for many years and this is their crowning glory. The ultimate is to hear Annie at the end of "Ashes are Burning". She is so keenly aware of the power of her voice, that she backs away from the mike so as to not blast the eardrums of the audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ecstatic!, December 14, 2010
This review is from: Live at Carnegie Hall/ The Deluxe Anniversary Edition (2 CD) (Original Recording Remastered) (Audio CD)
I've been a huge Renaissance fan ever since I listned to this live album "Live at Carnegie Hall" around 1982. I own almost all their albums and CD's. Prologue is their next best album in my opinion, but it is a distant second. Annie Haslam has an incredible voice, so clear, so beautiful, so serene and tranquil at the same time that it transforms one into a state of ecstasy! It is unbelievable how she can consistantly hit the right notes in live performances like this (not taking away any credit from the rest of the band, they are incredibly good as well). Finally on CD! I haven't listenend to this album since my LP player broke down twenty years ago. This CD is going under the Chrismas Tree this year. Can't wait! I'm prbably preaching to the choir, but if any one is new or not sure about this album, buy it, you will have no regrets!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great One, November 26, 2010

This review is from: Live at Carnegie Hall/ The Deluxe Anniversary Edition (2 CD) (Original Recording Remastered) (Audio CD)
I have seen Renaissance and Annie Haslam live a number of times and this captures the band at their mid 70's peak. Originally this was a double album with 2 of the songs taking up full album sides ("Ashes are Burning" and "Sheherazade".)
In concert, "Prologue" would be sung first to warm up Annie's voice and "Ashes.." could only be sung as the encore as Annie had nothing left after hitting the high notes of this one. There are other live CDs from the band, all are good but in my opinion, this is the best one. 5 Stars.

Among the 'Greatest' Live Recordings ever made for any genre, music at times you can actually feel and now made even better with the remastering. Thanks Renaissnace. It's worth every penny folks.

This is perhaps the signature collection of songs from this wonderful group. They are still performing live in the Pennsylvania area, and if you can get tickets, you will not be dissapointed!

This remaster is the icing on the cake of what has always been a great record. The band was at their peak, they were at Carnegie Hall with a full orchestra, and they performed all of the greatest songs, including a ( still!) spine-tingling Scheherazade. This was and still is some of the greatest music I've ever heard; I never tire of it. The earlier CD release was good, very good even, but I went ahead and bought this and the sound here is even better. Practically perfect. Definitely a Desert Island disc for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Stunning, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Live at Carnegie Hall/ The Deluxe Anniversary Edition (2 CD) (Original Recording Remastered) (Audio CD)
Was introduced to Renaissance some time after I'd first heard Steeleye Span's Commoner's Crown and just had to have more of this music. Renaissance, the music is beautiful, the voice brilliant, but the songs are stunning. Mother Russia tore my heart in two. My ex-husband had all of Renaissance and Steeleye on vinyl and I swear I miss the albums more than I miss him, thank goodness for the invention of CDs.
