5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Salute of Jazz Greats by Contemporary Stars!, February 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Carnegie Hall Salutes Jazz Masters (Audio CD)
For the uninitiated, this special tribute (also on videotape) screams with talent. The awe and respect in which the artists perform their craft is exceptional. The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band shines with its tight sound; jazz vocals are highlighted, and contemporary jazz featured too. Stellar performances by Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the late Antonio Carlos Jobim, the late Betty Carter, and more. Those familiar with these jazz standards would be pleased to hear new, refreshing arrangements and interpretations. I would have given my eye tooth to have been in that Hall during that evening's performance. This is one of my favorite jazz CD's which I listen to repeatedly and hear new nuances every time.
