Biography

In his brief career, Charlie Parker transformed jazz, spontaneously extending the harmonic and rhythmic range of the music in his fluent improvisations. Only Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane have had as dramatic an influence on other musicians. Broadly considered as one of the greatest saxophonists of all time, he was crucial in the development of the bebop movement. Many of his compositions have… Read more in Amazon's Charlie Parker Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Be-Bop by the Master!, May 9, 2008

I had searched a long time to get this cd (over 5 years!) and finally was able to get a copy 2 years ago and I will tell you that the search was worth every bit of effort to get this classic jazz cd! Charlie Parker's playing is fabulous and ferocious! You get to hear Sarah Vaughn (always a treat!) A young Miles Davis in age but definitely not in playing! This disc has been out of print for a while now and doubt that it will be re-issued but if you can find a copy, please do so!

For any bebop fans out there, especially fans of Charlie Parker,Miles Davis,Bud Powell or Max Roach, this the bebop concert to die for.
I had heard the five tracks by the CP Quintet w/Red Rodney before, but never in the context of the entire concert.
The cheering crowd urging all participants on really makes you part of the live event. There's also a couple of tracks by Sarah Vaughan.
I had been looking for this CD for several years and finally found it here.
The sound quality is excellent although not up to modern standards of course, it is a 60 year-old recording after all!
Highly recommended and well worth seeking out.
