Nice cabaret-style songs, but poor quality live recording, August 12, 2000
This review is from: Carnest De Scene (Audio CD)
This is "vintage" Patricia Kaas, singing cabaret/blues songs, written mostly by the Barbelivien/Bernheim team. These were recorded live at the Zenith in 1990, and initially released as a 2CD set with 20 songs. This version contains 16 of the songs on one disc. Those who like the cabaret genre will probably love these songs; however, they are not for everyone. I tried them on other family members, who found the songs irritating and overly stylized.
The main problem with this live recording is poor sound quality. The singer's voice occasionally fades out as she apparently moves around the stage; while the band sound is degraded by echoes, poor acoustics, and has a tinny quality. The spontaneity of the performance partly compensates for these shortcomings, but I would still prefer a studio recording or a better quality live recording of the same songs. Some of these songs are available on "Scene de vie" and "Mademiselle chante le blues", and I would check out those before buying this album.
