Yes, that is right, a good Friday the 13th book. Now the Carnival is the third installment of Eric Morse's Friday the 13th series which is the follow-up to Jason goes to hell. So the book series actually ties up a lot of the loose ends from Jason goes to hell as well as other parts, like 2 for instance. Now out of the four books in this series I found Carnival to be the best. The Story begins with a carnival (duh!) being built on the Camp Crystal Lake grounds, and murderous fun ensues. I don't want to give too much away because if I don't want to ruin the read for you, especially at the price this book is going for. But if your a Friday the 13th fan, you have to get the entire series, because they are really good! What Eric Morse is able to do with the reader is phenomenal, when I read this book, I swear at the best times I felt I was in the book and at the worst I thought I was watching it on T.V., it's that damn good.

Just as the others all seem to be saying, this is a good read. What many people may not realize is that even when the series was much, much newer, 'The Carnival' was nearly impossible to come by for some reason. I found the first two books in stores, even in some second hand joints about town from time to time. I was even able to order a copy of 'Road Trip' which at the time was yet to come out. But this book...It took me years and years to finally track a copy down for myself. I in my youth even went so far as to have a library copy sent out. I lived in Alaska and I seem to recall it was to arrive from Montana. The barge that it was arriving on ended up sinking. No stores could order it for me to buy and there were no other copies in libraries that would loan it out to me. No, just that could loan it.

I read the other three copies over and over again, imagining what had to have transpired in the book. Much as I have had to wonder about other odd texts like say...The Necronomicon-the real one, not the fake copies that you can just buy. I read those other books for more than ten years, waiting. Wondering. To the point that I could almost recite them. Really though, to the point, there is no mistaking it. It is a good book, a rare one at that. I don't know if it is really worth $60 or whatever all it goes for on here and other sites, but yeah, it is still certainly worth giving a look into the series.

Would you believe me if I told you that I used to have a bit of temper as a boy in school, that these and similar books were actually my young rewards for good behavior? So much for the belief that such books make children deliquents.

All I can say about this book, is WOW. From start to finish you simply cannot put this book down. Aside from the non-stop gore and fantastic detail attached to it, the character depiction is almost heartbreaking. For a book as short as it is, Mr. Morse forces you to become engaged internally almost against your will and does not let go. This book's main character IS real to me, whether or not she merely exists compacted inbetween dead trees and ink.

This is not JUST a book, it is a life changing experience. Amazing.

Again this wasn't what I expected from the title "The Carnival". This book was better than "Road Trip". This is another great book by Eric Morse!

This book was going good until the end. The suspense was good, and actually built on itself to where you stayed very much interested. It did kind of lag in a few places, but stayed rolling. Then the ending..I won't spoil it for anyone..but I, personally, hated it. Not the part about Jason's mask, but there's only one survivor. I think Eric Morse is a great writer. Hope the other Camp Crystal Lake novels are better.
