5.0 out of 5 stars you've got to hear this!
If you've never heard obsession/methods of madness, its's one of the best metal albums to be released.Carnival of lies is a great follow up to methods. With 2 original members(Mike Vescera-vocals/Jay Mezias-drums)they do a great mix of new material and update two older songs-Marshall law is better than the original.Check free preveiws on you-tube i swear you won't be...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just another M.V.P. project
I was a litte disappointed. Michael is a great singer, but this is really not an Obsession album, it's just another one of his solo or M.V.P. projects. He is the only original member. No stand out songs. I guess I was hoping for an '80s repeat, but it didn't happen. It's worth a listen if you've liked his other M.V.P. albums, but don't expect any blasts from the past.

A follow up to methods of madness, its a great cd. Similar to the previous 3 mike vescera stills sounds great. Also note there are new band members in his band, great chours and guitar base. I highly recomend this for people that like 80's heavy metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Featuring Michael Vescera, Joe Stump and Rob Marcello!!, November 13, 2011

"Carnival of lies" is the third album by melodic metal group "Obsession" originally released in 2007, marking their reformation. "Obsession" was the metal outfit of Michael Vescera in the mid-late `80s before the singer would move on to highly acclaimed collaborations with such talents as Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Stump.

The reformed "Obsession" features bassist Chris McCarvill (also of "House of Lords"), guitarists Scott Boland and John Bruno along with drummer Jay Mezias. "Carnival of lies" is a quality melodic metal album with a clear `80s orientation featuring catchy harmonies and choruses that should appeal to most fans of the genre. One also has to address that guest appearances are a big part of this comeback album. We are looking at two guitar virtuosos who perform on five songs, these are Rob Marcello ("Danger Danger") and Joe Stump (who co-founded "Reign of Terror" with Michael).

The production handled by Vescera grants the album a thick and satisfactory sound without undermining the melodic aspects of "Carnival of lies" with such standouts as "In for the kill", "Playing dead", "I don't belong", the opener "Smoking gun" as well as the title track. If you enjoy heavy yet melodic metal with a clear `80s orientation combining solid songwriting and flamboyant performances, "Obsession-Carnival of lies" is a great proposition.
