It's not difficult to be a Simon Baker fan. That smile will win you over every time. I did watch all three seasons of The Guardian and liked them, but after awhile the pattern of nothing ever going right for Nick got to be a downer. I wish that at least the final episode had been more hopeful.

For seasons one and two Nick Fallon tread a slow path to redemption from a life scarred by the death of his mother, the soft abandonment of his father (boarding schools), the loss of his suburban childhood, and the velvet handcuffs of wealth. Starting with a guy scared straight after getting busted with coke, Nick slowly comes to understand his humanity through his work at Legal Services of Pittsburgh with really unfortunate people. This is a guy who never gets upset though everyone around him, including the mean progressives at LSP, the partners at his firm, and even his girlfriend pretty much insult him all the time. By the end of the second season, you can see this kid making amends left and right, saving the down-trodden, working two jobs at once, wooing an unhappy beautiful woman, and making his AA meetings.

Apparently that is just not enough for Hollywood. Season three is all about destroying Nick. We're not talking a little back slide here and there, we are talking really self-destructive behavior with no apparent reason or justification. The writers just destroy him, I suppose, to put him through more redemption cycles, but each time they have to take him down further. Nick suddenly develops vices he never had in the first two seasons, and everyone around him becomes increasingly, nails-on-chalkboard gratingly self righteous towards him. The last season end after only half a dozen episodes, mericifully, at which point you hate every last one of the self-righteous jerks except Nick and Lulu's baby daughter.

This is the final season of "The Guardian," and I enjoyed it. Like the two seasons before it, I was so frustrated at times with some of the stories because people do really dumb things in life that cause a lot of pain (and I personally would have hoped to avoid those choices.) This made it hard to watch at times. But, truth is the story is very well told. The fact that I was continually engaged speaks to the strength of the acting and the writing. The creative balance achieved between the lives of the main characters and those of the "stories" in the cases that surround them is so good. I was sorry to see it end.

Great show for legal buffs because yo get the views and workings of a public defenders office as well as a large private firm. Well written and acted, I've watched nearly the entire series now.

Loved this program the story lines were very interesting and the actors all wonderful. Simon Baker and all of the cast were great. Not happy the way it ended but perhaps quite true to life.
