Carnivore & Christmas Evil Double Feature...., January 22, 2009
This review is from: Carnivore + Christmas Evil (Double Feature)(Slim Case) (DVD)
Starring Daryl Hannah, Rachel Ward, Joe Pantoliano and Adrian Zmed in some of their earliest roles; Carnivore tells the story of a group of forest rangers who go camping one weekend. Only to find out that they encounter a backwoods mother who kills people who get on her turf. While this movie won't win any awards for originality & at times feels like you're actually watching real-life happening, it is a genuinely creepy horror film. It will definitely make you think twice before going out camping somewhere. It does have its' dull moments but, for the most part, Carnivore is a good horror movie to pass the time by with.
Next comes Christmas Evil. We start off in 1947 with two kids seeing Santa come down and deliver presents, but-as one kid is skeptical about him being real- he rushes down for one more look, only to find Santa on his knees rubbing his mom's leg. This twists his thoughts and, as we see him get older, he becomes obsessed with Santa Claus and Christmas. Harry, our main character, begins to embody the notion of Santa Claus- at first. Then, a sequence of events, makes Harry derail and go nuts. It's alot like Silent Night, Deadly Night. I must admit, Silent Night, Deadly Night is alot better as it explains that characters' reasons for killing alot better. Sure, you find out in Christmas Evil that Harry was crippled mentally by seeing(his dad dressed as) Santa rubbing his mom's leg but I just can't grasp it messing up this guy all his life pyschologically. I mean, come on. At least, in Silent Night, Deadly Night; we find out that Billy(that movies' main character) was damaged mentally by seeing his parents get killed which is alot more reasonable to believe. Still, overall, Christmas Evil is a watchable movie.
The double feature itself is worth it. If you can find it for cheap, pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

Creepy Stuff!, January 23, 2006

Wow Daryl Hannah in a great horror role, a must just for that! Then there's one about a lonely factory worker who brings death to the naughty! Both decent transfers. Both worth owning if your into grisly horror! Five stars!
