Introduction When we meet a carnivore in the field, it evokes many feelings in us. We see an animal that can still enjoy sunlight, rain and the words of the wind - feelings that sometimes humans have forgotten. Or even worse, refuse to feel. But sometimes we are haunted by worries because we know that many carnivores are endangered, and because we know that people fear or dislike them.

Many carnivores live in Argentina, and yet we know nothing about them, not even in what part of the country they occur or what types of habitat they need to survive. Among them, we find the carnivores of the Pampas grasslands, which are featured in this book.

We know that carnivores accomplish very important functions in the natural ecosystem, and this could be a sufficient reason to let them share with us this place, the Earth. However, perhaps the most important reason that we can propose, and the most difficult to accomplish, is that all life forms deserve respect for living in the same space and time with us, the human animals.
