This review is from: Carob Cookbook: For Those Who Love Chocolate, But Can't Eat It (Paperback)
In late 2003/early 2004 I became allergic to chocolate. At the time I was a chocolate lover. If it had chocolate in it, I loved it! So when I could no longer eat it, dessert time went from a joyful experience to a depressing one. Over the years I found out about Carob. I love carob, but it can be tricky to cook and bake with. Well all that went away the second I got this book. The recipes are amazing and not super complicated either. I had my mother come over one day for cookies, well after eating them her exact words were: "who needs chocolate!" (she is also a huge chocolate lover, so this was a big deal.) So with this being said, if you are allergic to chocolate but love the taste, BUY THIS COOKBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!

Yummy carob recipes,
This review is from: Carob Cookbook: For Those Who Love Chocolate, But Can't Eat It (Paperback)
These are by far the most "chocolately" carob recipes I have found yet! I cannot eat chocolate due to dairy and caffeine allergies, but I love chocolate! I tried substituting carob powder for cocoa powder in my favorite recipes, but they always tasted bitter. The recipes in this book are sweet and delicious. Even my chocolate-eating husband likes them!

My son is allergic to chocolate, but was a real chocoholic before the allergy. Now, we are able to make his old favorites, and new favorites, thanks to this cookbook!

Really Handy Alternative Cookbook,

If you are one that is not familiar with the benefits of carob powder, I suggest you read my review of the Barry Farms product available here on Amazon. It is accessible by following the link at the end of this review. Carob powder is not only an excellent, if not the only alternative that people that are allergic to chocolate have, but it is also a slightly more nutritional alternative for those that don't like all the caffeine that is present in chocolate. Carob powder contains no caffeine and can be used in place of cooking with anything that calls for chocolate or cocoa powder. Cooking with, or substituting carob is not as easy as one would think. Carob pulp is not only a little sweeter than chocolate, but it is not the same strength or flavor as real chocolate ounce for ounce. That's why I recommend this fine little cookbook for anyone that is either allergic to, or prefers the benefits of carob powder over chocolate. It guides you through the process of substituting and cooking with carob easily and deliciously in over a hundred different recipes. I have owned this book for quite some time and have made very good tasting "chocolate" muffins, cake, brownies, and other delightful concoctions for many years. It also has some nice recipes for drinks that are better nutritionally for your youngins', as well as mentioned before, being absent of any of the caffeine found in chocolate and cocoa. Follow the link enclosed for more info on carob powder if you wish. As for the cookbook, I highly recommended it...Carob Powder, 1 lb. Light Roast

A must have book for folks who like chocolate stuff but for various reasons can't/don't consume much of it. Carob can mimic Chocolate very easily when properly prepared. I am very pleased with the book, so much I'm bothering to write my thoughts on it! Well done!
