Editorial Reviews

Review

What a delightful and riveting children's book! I honestly could not put this down for even the slightest moment, so captivating are both the story line and the illustrations! The fact that the story and all the characters revolve around being angels in heaven, made the book and underlying message an inspiring and reassuring tale of life after death. This book could be used very successfully for chronically ill children, or children facing their own, or another's mortality. Simply and beautifully presented, the story makes life after death a most intriguing adventure....I even missed the fact that Carolee was an angel till my second read through, so real and lifelike are all the characters...not mystical or otherworldly at all, simply kids being kids, and teachers being teachers, all playing out in the celestial realms, which appear to be very like our everyday lives. And of course, the surprise guest at the end made Carolee's challenge and ultimate victory all the sweeter; a lovely message for children and their newly realized faith in the divine. I hope Carolee has many many more  adventures in heaven, and keeps her charming wardrobe throughout all the books!                         --M. Leonard

5.0 out of 5 stars A deeply heartwarming tale that kids will love October 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Compared with a lot of recently published children's books, Janice Limb Myers's `Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir' easily stands out--it brims with positive energy, and features an adorable, innocent, Christ-centered story that will not only delight children, but also leave them a deep sense of happiness and upliftment.

`Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir' is about Carolee, whose aspirations to be the "Superstar" in the Christmas choir is constantly marred by her tendency to squeak out the high notes. They practice everyday, her excitement and enthusiasm growing by each practice session, yet on the eve of their performance, the squeaking does not relent--until she happens to meet the supposed "special guest"--no other than Jesus, who reassures her everything will be alright.

Myers book is set to be a classic--I bet it will be read in households in the years to come. And yes, when the book's blurb says it has "beautiful and creative illustrations," it's actually an understatement. I have read many recently produced children's books, and they all seemed to have one thing in common--the illustrations have that "rushed, carelessly done" quality about them. But Myers book is lightyears different--if that makes sense--in that every illustration is breathtakingly beautiful. Remember Anton Ego from Pixar's `Ratatouille', the moment he tastes Remy the rat's version of ratatouille and instantly Anton is "transported" back to his childhood, enjoying his mother's dish? The illustrations in Myers's `Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir' have the same emotional and spiritual impact on me--they bring back memories of my own childhood, when the best books for children have these amazing, homey illustrations that allow you to inhabit its world, even for a few precious moments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great writing and admirable illustrations October 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book in an attempt to encourage my daughter to keep up her reading in a way that she would find fun while educating at the same time. I briefly went over the content first, as I always do with kindle books, and I must say that I am very impressed with the writing material and especially the illustrations.

Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir has gone way above and beyond my initial expectations and left me with an author to keep an eye out for. I originally planned on saving this for closer to the Christmas season but I couldn't wait and decided to read it with her early. Needless to say, she absolutely loved it and in turn it leaves me a very satisfied and happy parent. If Janice Limb Myers can entertain my child through this story then she is bound to impress many more as my daughter is very critical and picky when it comes to literature, yet she still enjoyed it thoroughly. I will be looking out for future releases by the author

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVED it! October 11, 2013
By Alisa H
Format:Kindle Edition
I love that this is a cute children's book that actually teaches the real reason for the season! The children's choir is getting ready for their Christmas performance and for their special guest, and it was a great reminder to me that we are always getting ready for that special guest in our lives -- especially at Christmas time! Carolee learns that when we turn our hearts to Jesus, He can make us so much more than we currently are! And yet, there was absolutely nothing "preachy" about the book -- it was a sweet children's Christmas story!

Because this is a children's book, I wanted to get my 10-year-old daughter's opinion... She loved it! She loved how at first Carolee thought of herself as the best, and then something happens and she realizes she's not as good as she thought she was. But then Jesus heals her and she becomes something better than she thought she was - she becomes a Caroling Angel. I was thrilled that my daughter got this message from a Christmas story... and that she enjoyed reading the actual story, too!

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review)

More About the Author

Janice Limb Myers has just introduced her first Christian Romance novel, Sacrifice - Carrie's Story, the first in the six-book series The Carpenter Chronicles. This first novel is a dream come true having grown up the daughter, sister, and then mother of writers who all left this world before they could accomplish their publishing dreams.

Janice is the mother of four and grandmother of eight. After a successful career as an organizational development consultant, she retired to write. She has published 32 children's books, although Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir, a Christmas Book for Kids of All Ages (written for her mother), and Hunter Becomes a Pirate (written for her grandson) are particularly dear to her heart.

Janice and her husband are currently living in Ecuador where she volunteers as an English teacher, and teaches piano and music conducting in her church. It was their love for the Ecuadorian people that encouraged the publishing of Carolee Sings in the Christmas Choir in both English and Spanish. She hopes the readers enjoy both the Kindle and paperback editions.
