Carolina Cooking-NOT,
By grits are good "grits are good" (charleston, sc) - See all my reviews

Carolina Cooking? There may be great recipes, but not enough to deserve the book's title. For example: Jicama mango slaw, egg roll soba noodles with curry coconut sauce, Asian sweet and sour sauce, Moroccan pesto, chicken Milanese, Mediterranean couscous, tamales with adobo chicken, pork chops alla Zingara. And a sushi chapter! Those low country writers must have been on a trip!

An excellent source of cooking recipes for those who enjoy the unusual and have the time to do so.

My husband and I hosted a lovely formal party for 150 people. We had our caterer use Carolina Cooking recipes for the entire menu. The guests were so impressed with the quality and variety of the selections from Carolina Cooking that many of them immediately ordered the cookbook from Amazon, and several also insisted that our local book store stock the book. The wonderful selections in the cookbook certainly encourage the reader to fequent the finer southern restaurants featured. We continue to use Carolina Cookbook recipes in our home. It is a treasure.

Nice recipes, but NOT from North or South Carolina. These recipes are basically from ethnic restaurants in the Carolinas; I don't think Carolina Cooking is a suitable title.

I caught a few episodes of the TV series that preceeded this book so when I was able to order on the cheap I picked up a copy. All I can say would closely mirror another reviewer's comments that this book does not reflect at all typical Carolina cuisine. I am a born and breed North Carolina chef and former restaurant owner, and a devoted foodie. I have never heard of most of these chefs or the restaurants they represent. The recipes are not bad, but reek of those favored by recent culinary school grads, and again, are NOT reflective of North Carolinian tastes or food traditions.
