Elf was an American rock/blues band formed in the late 60's and early 70's. One member who stood out from the rest was Ronnie James Dio. The band's music is a somewhat mish-mash of honky tonk mixed with basic rock riffs. The band made 3 albums: Elf, Trying to Burn the Sun, and Carolina County Ball. 4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice to experience a different side of Dio., November 10, 1998

I happened to stumble across this album a while back and was glad I did. If you are looking to experience a different side of Ronnie James Dio than you are probably used to, check out Elf. This album, and the beefier "Trying to burn the Sun," both have good blues/rock influences and are very interesting listening. Ronnie Dio is indeed a man of many talents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Early Ronnie Dio is a Classic, March 6, 2008

Anyone who claims to be a Dio fan should have this album from the early seventies. With the Honky Tonk, Blues Riffs, mixed with Ronnie's dramatic clear pitch, and incredible true range, I believe this album was a hint of what would soon come. Though Ronnie James Dio has gone on to super stardom in Heavy Metal,( Black Sabbath, Dio, a special tour of Heaven and Hell) I am still one to hope for a reunion of ELF, just one more time...
