"I really see this album as a game-changer for us," Eric Church says of The Outsiders, his fourth album and the follow-up to his platinum breakthrough Chief. "I want people to understand that we're here and that we will be reckoned with."

Although Church has already built a reputation as a restless creative force while blazing an unconventional path to country ... Read more in Amazon's Eric Church Store

5.0 out of 5 stars An album that makes you want to hear it again. March 25, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
First, let me say I am not a big fan of country. I discovered Eric Church when I attended Bob Seger's "Face The Promise concert in Atlanta.
Eric Church was the "opening act". What got my attention right off the bat was that his band could play rock and roll and they were great, but Eric's lyrics and vocal style got my attention. Hmmmm...great rock and roll with great lyrics delivered by a voice that just had magical clarity to it. The next day, I ordered "Sinners Like Me" and found myself listening to it over and over thinking to myself...."what's a classic rock fan doing listening to and enjoying COUNTRY?"

I downloaded "Carolina" from Amazon at 12:30 AM on it's release date and I've listened to it at least a couple of dozen times and it's only been out for a couple of days. Every song has something that will catch your musical ear. This is one of those rare albums that doesn't have a bad song on it. Five great rockers, five ballads, and two somewhere in between and all of the songs tell a story "Eric Church style".

"Those I've Loved" will haunt you and "Ain't Killed Me Yet" along with "Young and Wild" proves Eric "likes his country rockin"
"Hell on the Heart" and "Without You Here" are just great toe tappin' songs with hooks that will capture that "I need to hear that song again" feeling as your fingers hit the back button on your IPOD.

This is a pure country CD that will surprise you. It's good rock and roll mixed with country creating a magic sound that you've never heard before Eric Church

5.0 out of 5 stars Second done better.. March 24, 2009
Format:Audio CD
I as a Country Music fan, thought that in no way, shape or form could "Sinners Like Me" be topped with a sophmore debut....I stand corrected! This Guy is not only a Mans, man, but has the soft side that guys can actually relate to. Honestly..I am not some follower or stalker of his music, but, I bought it along with John Rich's new cd..This is one talented son of a bi!@h. I would definately recommened this to any fan of Down Home country that is about life and love and growing up. Women will love this and Guys will relate and enjoy as well. Well written, and entertaining. Boots to fill and She told me where to go, awesome. Enjoy! Not too many Discs have this much Charisma!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album March 25, 2009
Format:Audio CD
It is rare when an artist can put together an album as good as "Sinners Like Me" that is great from beginning to end and it is even more rare to do it twice in a row!

What I love about Eric Church is that you can pop in his albums push play and not have to skip songs you will enjoy every one of them. I will not say that this is better than "Sinners" but it is every bit as good. He seems to branch out and have a better variety of rockin' songs and more melodic songs.

One thing that "Carolina" does seem to be missing in comparison to "Sinners" is that stop you in your tracks song like 'Lightning' from "Sinners". Where it picks up the slack is 'Lotta boot left to fill'-which takes a jab at the pseudo-country/pop artists like Rascal Flatts etc.

This album stays true with traditional outlaw country but also looks forward to where the genre should be headed!

Best of the album: Lotta Boot Left To Fill, Those I've Loved, Carolina, Young and Wild

Also available through iTunes: Leave My Willie Alone

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Church is country music! March 27, 2009
Format:Audio CD
"Carolina" is another solid album from one of country music's most underrated artists. I personally prefer this album to "Sinners Like Me" even though I think that "Sinners Like Me" is a great album. To me "Carolina" is an overall more positive album. I have listened to this album over and over again and can honestly say that I love every song on the cd. No need to hit the skip button. I wish the country music industry would pay more attention to what Eric's fans already know... he is what country music is all about. People can relate to his down-to-earth, honest approach to his music. What you see is what you get. Too bad we had to wait 3 years between albums. Hopefully we won't have to wait as long next time around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best record of 2009 March 24, 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is in my opinion the best country record of the year so far. All of the songs, which he either wrote or co wrote, are all good songs. Alot of records out there nowadays have a decent song or two (ok maybe 3), but Eric Church has put out another album that is solid from start to finish. There is no filler material here. Your local country radio station may or may not be supporting this guy, but beat the bandwagon jumpers and pick up a copy now. If you get a chance to see him live, I highly recommend that as well, you won't be disappointed.

Great upbeat tunes. I still like his first CD a little better, but this one is still good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another solid, true country record. March 24, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Eric Church is proof that genuine, heartfelt country music hasn't yet had its last breath. He can create a driving melody ("Ain't Killed Me Yet") and a stellar lyric ("Young and Wild"); his songs are oft-autobiographical glimpses into the lives of ordinary, complex people. If he isn't talking about love lost or the pleasures of rural life, he's decrying the state of contemporary country music on the exquisite "Lotta Boot Left to Fill" ("You sing about Johnny Cash/But the Man in Black would kick your a**"). It's telling that Church can sing with such venom and not come off sounding like a hypocrite.

The problem with Eric Church's music is that it wavers so much; when he's good he's great, when he's not-so-good he's barely listenable. He can churn out a masterful lyric ("Without you here, I'm a melody living in a world that can't hear sound"), or a cliche-ridden redneck anthem ("Love Your Love the Most"). Sometimes a song alternates between the two ("Smoke a Little Smoke" starts off as an incredibly bland hick anthem, but then transforms into an insightful glimpse into the mind of a man at odds with himself). That, of course, is an affliction of country music: to stay loyal to the rural audience, or dare to reach for something beyond? Even the legends struggled with it--listen to almost any Waylon or Cash record, and you'll hear a few clunkers with the classics--so we can't really hold Church too accountable; still, it's a frustrating problem, since we know how great he can really be.

Church wrote or co-wrote every song on CAROLINA, and sings hem all in a voice that is both smooth and rugged. Despite the few road bumps along the way, CAROLINA is a stellar country record, filled with heart, defiance, originality, and enthusiasm. Traditional country may be on its last legs, but Eric Church is determined to keep it alive as long as he possibly can.
