Very useful!
Instead of picking up shells and putting them away in a box, you will learn the name of the shell and how it lived at one time. Very informative book with pictures of the shells and handy size for travel to the beach. Don't skip the beginning pages of the book for great beach info.

does not meet expectations
I returned this book. I wanted an informative pocket guide with reference photos to all the common varieties. This book, while informative and interesting, does not provide photos or enough drawings for the casual beachcomber to differentiate between too many of the shells found on NC beaches (example - the section on arks lists and describes all possible varieties but...

I returned this book. I wanted an informative pocket guide with reference photos to all the common varieties. This book, while informative and interesting, does not provide photos or enough drawings for the casual beachcomber to differentiate between too many of the shells found on NC beaches (example - the section on arks lists and describes all possible varieties but still will not tell me for sure which one I am holding in my hand).
