My daughter cannot get enough of Carolinda Clatter! This story of a grief stricken giant who falls asleep and becomes a mountain after being rebuffed by his love The Moon is magical. After thousands of years, people come and build a town on the giant's belly. They know the legend about the giant being a mountain and live a life of silence in constant fear of waking him up. Then Carolinda Clatter, the loudest child ever, is born and awakens the giant. The illustrations are lovely, the story is captivating, and I actually enjoy reading it over and over. A great tall tale that I'll definitely be buying for the other children I know.

I'm surprised that the professional reviewers consider this a flawed book. It makes perfect sense to me and the alleged flaws in the plot are amply explained. My almost-six-year-old twin girls love this story and I love reading it to them.

Calling the town "Pupickton" is very cute and funny for those familiar with the Yiddish term for belly button.

I read this book to my preschool class and they were captivated. It has such a nice mix of dialogue and narrative, with wonderful illustrations to match!

This book is a wonderful tale with terrific illustrations. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a tall tale.

Carolinda Clatter is a wonderful and amazing book... First time that my children (5 1/2 and 3 1/2) read it, they were addicted. We had checked it out of the library, and after the max # of renewals we bought it.

It is the story of a giant who has lain down and fallen asleep, saddened because he has fallen in love with the moon, and she does not return his love. Eventually he becomes a series of hills and mountains, and thousands of years later, a town grows there. The stories of the giant are well known, however, so it is an extremely quiet town until Carolinda Clatter is born. She will not, unlike her townsfolk, keep her voice down, and eventually wakes the giant with her singing into earthquakes and rumbling. As such, she is sent to put him back to sleep. Carolinda convinces the giant that he cannot dance to her songs and that the moon has finally fallen in love with him, and he contentedly goes back to sleep and leaves the townspeople to be. They finally don't have to be quiet!

The book is beautifully written and illustrated. Wish every book we picked up was a well written and wonderfully illustrated! Highly recommended.
