A valuable guide for healers...,
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
For those that consider them self a healer; aspire to be a healer; training to be a healer; or are not sure what a healer is... I believe this audio book will be of great value to you.
Caroline explores many of the myths, issues, challenges, and important understandings that I am sure all healers will face, experience or deal with a some stage in their career. Her no-nonsense approach is clear and concise. This work is very much a "guide". It is not a manual. It is not an instructive work. It does not teach you how to heal or be a healer. Rather it is a general guide to those that work in or wish to work in this field. It is a guide that will assit a healer to be better at what they do. What will also become apparent to those who listen to this work is just how broad the field of the healer really is. From human health through to the health of a corporation... healers have a role in a wide cut of society. Caroline's elaboration on this may be helpful to those who have struggled to identify their mode of healing. I know many healers, some who are very experienced and established in their field, teaching other's to be healers. As I listed to this excellent guide I was constantly aware of just how much this information would benefit these healers that I know personally. Caroline directly addresses many of the issues that I see these healers struggling with for various reasons. Disc 1 explores the "Archetype of the healer": Addresses topics such as "Healers as spiritual midwives", "The myth of the wounded healer", "How do you know if you called to be a healer", and "Knowing your own motivations". Disc 2 explores "The Shadow side of the healer": Topics such as "It's a shadow perspective to see disease as an enemy", "Offering your best without attachment to the outcome", "Symptoms of psychic burn-out" (important for most healers), "The suffering healer"... etc Disc 3 explores "Healthy Self-Esteem and the Art of Healing". This disc often had me thinking of healers I know that are struggling in one way or another... what Caroline covers on this disc is a very important contribution to the art of healing. Disc 4 explores "Advice for the developing healer": Topics like "What type of healer are you?", "Spirituality, money, gender, and right livelihood", "Psychic boundaries", "The role of the healer in the larger world"... and more. This disc, like all of them, also contains a great deal of information that I am sure will be of value to most healers... both established healers and those that are in the early stages of exploring this vocation. UPDATE: APRIL 2010: I still refer inwardly to much of what I listened to in this Essential Guide, and it is quite some years since I listened to it. To me that is a good testament in itself about the value of this audio book by Myss. I wish you all the best of health, Jonathan Evatt Author of multi-award winning book Peace, Power, and Presence: A guide to Self Empowerment, Inner Peace, and Spiritual Enlightenment, the first title in the Wisdom for a Life of Freedom series - available on Amazon.com

This CD set changed the way I view my profession and gave me the answers I was searching for for years. Her myths of the healer was eye opening and her approach to burn out is going to save me tons of frustration. Because of Caroline I can relax and do my job with compassion but not let it take it's toll on me. I thank her for that.

A MUST for healing practitioners,
By David K. Salih "Please check out my new cd av... (miami beach, fl United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
As a healing practioner, I have found this cd to be awesome! It opens up assumptions and limitations most of us share around what it means to be a healing practitioner. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in bringing healing to any practice, including types of work that are not generally considered a 'healing' practice. For instance, Myss points out that healing can be a part of the role of even a financial advisor, as someone who 'heals' a person's finances and relationship to finance/abundance.
Besides this, there is so much insight and wisdom for more traditional healing practices, this cd has empowered me as a massage therapist on a whole new level. I have read/heard many of Myss' work, and find this to be one of my favorites.

This is great work...,

I thought this CD set was fabulous... she tapped on many good points and I felt they were very relevant for day to day life as a healer. It made me really stop and address my viewpoints. No one can give you the correct answers, it all comes from within and she gives you the tools to look at where you personally are at as a healer. I found her personal commentaries to be quite amusing as well. Her very direct and to the point attitude is refreshing and although I may not necessarily agree with everything in her opinions, I didn't find any of them offensive or a distraction from prime source of information. A must hear for all healers!!

disappointing,
By Natalie Winchester "Holistic Wellness" (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
With a title claiming "Essential Guide for Healers", and having high regard for some of her other works, I was excited to hear this set. I was expecting a positive, motivational, educational, enlightening experience - instead, I was weighed down with her seriously negative attitued about what healing artists other than herself were bringing to the world. It was painful, but I listened to the entire 4 discs, waiting for some of the kinds of gems that have come from her other works. The 3rd and 4th discs were somewhat less negative than the first two, but disappointing is the best one word review for this work. Wasted money - I don't even feel good about passing it along to anyone else.

Finally!Truth be told of The Healing Arts.Thank you Caroline,
By Pioneer Spirit (New England,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
Essential guide for healers is the most concise and precise work to date regarding The Healing Arts. Before deciding to enter this skill those considering should listen to this workshop as it is a calling and requires more than meets the eye.Over the past decade plus, many people are jumping into this arena completely unprepared and unaware of the consequences and responsibilities that come with the healing arts<my opinion.
Caroline puts it in very clear terms and I tip my hat to her for all of the detailed information and wisdom she shares in this workshop.I have found so many people that want to jump into this area completely uninformed just to be able to say that they are healers, people with no self worth and no learned skill, just a quick rushed attunement and a certificate. you know, the ones who are willing to "heal others" but not themselves so sad,but true. For the ignorance of being in the ego serves nobody. You have your serious people who truly want to answer the call to take on such a BIG responsibility that are being watered down and catergorized due to inadequately trained "healers"...It is a calling,A true calling and one must be prepared in every aspect and in every way of this skill before diving in uneducated. I also agree with Caroline on the bartering system,as i've stated so many times to others-it is a favor not an even exchange of energy. And what is with the "healers" who claim this their profession and then refuse to place a price or accept money for their skill, time, effort? To be in this art or any spiritual art does not preclude to poverty!!Not by any means whatsoever. Discernment in many areas appears to be a serious problem in this art,Yes,Art/skill..I say this as we humans are skilled and learned in this once we are called to work for the Divine and accept this calling,we are not the actual energy but only the vessel that channels the energy, unlike those who claim it is physical self who does the "healing".This is not a beginners guide as somebody stated,it is an incredible audio guide for all interested in the healing arts no matter how long or short a time one has been in this field. And Caroline does not limit this workshop to just Reiki practitioners/Teachers, or laying on of hands energy work she expounds on all levels and areas of life both spiritual and physical. It is my opinion upon reading the few negative reviews and having been in this art for 17+ yrs that those who are whining and knocking Caroline are the ones who have no business in this art-they are seeing themselves and their lack through her wisdom, therefore they are projecting themselves onto her! Some just cannot face their true selves or their motives, just attune me and show me the money attitude.Ha!Wake up people~This Art is NOT for everyone. Here are the highlights/topics to give the reviewer an idea of what to expect from each disc; Disc 1-The archetype of the Healer- explores Why we need a guide for healers- the Archetype of the healer in the Western world: Addresses topics such as Healers as spiritual midwives, The myth of the wounded healer,Becoming a worthy vessel for healing-The power of anonimity, How do you know if you are called to be a healer, and Knowing your own motivations. Disc 2-The shadow side of the healer- explores The importance of looking at yourself honestly, "The Shadow side of the healer": Topics such as "It's a shadow perspective to see disease as an enemy",Picking up and carrying other peoples energy,Compassionate detachment- "Offering your best without attachment to the outcome", "Symptoms of psychic burn-out" (important for most healers), "The suffering healer. Disc 3-Healthy Self Esteem and the Art of Healing- explores Self Esteem IS the most significant power in human experience,Self esteem is something you can earn,Everything depends on your wiring and motivation,Intuitive clarity and self esteem,Two levels of personal intuition-survival intuition and conscious intuition;revelation,Do you listen to your own intuition,Pangs of conscience,The difference between an ordinary healer and an extraordinary healer. Disc 4- explores Advice for the developing healer, What type of healer are you?, Spirituality, money, gender, and right livelihood",Engaging in the world with interior strength, Psychic boundaries, The role of the healer in the larger world... and more. Run time 5 hrs. As you can see there is a lot of pertinent information in this workshop. This is a definite must have for all healers. My highest recommendation if there is only one set that you can buy and are considering The Healing Arts this is it! If I appear harsh it is due to the seriousness with which I take this Art/skill,and those who do not belong in this arena, but are looking for a quick financial fix & Ego boost! Kudos Caroline! My Greatest Teachers in life were the ones who appeared to be the toughest! They were the Best! 10 stars here **********

Grounded and Important,
By Willow (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
This CD is VERY important for healers, many people go into the healing profession, ungrounded searching for proof of their own "specialness" Caroline is quick to deflate this notion. We are all gifted in our own ways, some as healers some not. The vocational draw that is ego driven- is not of service to others. Caroline Myss provides practical advice, myth debunking and drives people to be introspective. An essential componenet to those in the healing world. Those who are introspective, have ego strength and boundries will appreciate this compilation. If you are searching for a path to those qualities this is the CD for you. She is an honest and grounded speaker, much needed in the new age realm.

Disappointing to this listener,
By
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
While I had heard a lot of Carolyn Myss, held her in high regard, and owned several of her books, I had not heard her speak. I saw another massage therapist listening to this CD set and just ordered the CDs based on that. What a shock.
From the reviews I see that Carolyn does help some people, and we all have different tastes, but personally I found her attitude unsettling and unpleasant. I was really surprised at how much I did not like the CDs. Recommendation for the reader? See if you can listen to some of her CDs before buying them, so you'll have an idea if she's helpful to you or not. I'll be selling my set to someone else!

Dont bite the messenger,
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
To those that have given this one star, they are the people that Dr. Myss has offended because they feel lik ethe they need to be vegetarians and such to be healers. I am a physician and alsways thought of myself as a healer, but this calling is so much more.
Dr. Myss is an unbelievable resource, yet she pulls no punches and shoots right from the hip. If you do not like someone telling you exactly what they think then you may not lik eher approach. To all the people that gave a negative review, I say, you need to exapnd our first and second chakras and break outside of the security of the tribe and look for more in your lives. If you are an LMT and are just in this for the money then you have missed the boat, The same thing is true for a physician such as myself. Look deeper and listen to this.

Essential Guide to Discourage Healers,
This review is from: Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for Healers (Audio CD)
Although I feel much of Caroline Myss' work is incredible and her span and wealth of knowledge is priceless, this work is filled with discrepancy of thought, negative attitudes and a prevailing grudge against those who have chosen the field of alternative healing or healing arts. Her advice seems to be presented as though it is coming from a place of tough love, but it is not...it is just plain tough and discouraging. Because I have enjoyed so much of her works, I pushed through it and found many good kernels of truth, but you have to wade through a lot of negative and downright rude personal stories and 'advice' to get to something useful...I prefer the facts without so much negative commentary.
