This review is from: Caroline and the Preacher (Love Inspired #72) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was about a woman, Caroline, who had several issues. She worked for a man who was trying to buy out several city blocks, including an old church, so that he could hack off his brother who had left the company a few years before. John, who was the preacher at the old church, was willing to fight against it to the bitter end. But Caroline, who turned her back on God after a tragic event happened in her family, is determined to manipulate John into giving up the church. Her plan seems to be an act of helping the church to John.
This book had several issues. First of all, John didn't seem like that big of a Christian. There was nothing mentioned of salvation - it seemed to be more of a Catholic belief than Christian...When he led the group in prayer, he allowed silent prayer for those of other faiths. I don't know about other preachers, but my preacher would lead the group in a Christian prayer...
Also, one night Caroline told John she COULD NOT go to her apartment, so he took her to his. That is a big no-no for any Christian relationship, more so a preacher!!! John was kissing her and allowing a relationship when she still had her back turned on God.
I almost quit reading when I was about 1/3 of the way through because it was so slow and boring. The last half was okay though. I also had an issue with the whole "raising pennies" thing. John wasn't doing it for God and missions. He had other reasons, and let Caroline and her boss manipulate him...

This review is from: Caroline and the Preacher (Love Inspired #72) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is an excellent story about priorities and about how we measure success in our lives. It's also about finding healing through faith, and finding support in a faith-based community, rather than blaming God and the faithful for what went wrong with our lives. In hallmark Love-Inspired style, these characters act with kindness and respect. Their dialogue is well-written and positive, rather than destructive.
From the back cover: On the fast track to success, beautiful Caroline Carson had everything within reach - except love. Until the day her powerful boss presented her with a simple challenge. If Caroline could sweet-talk Reverend John Barrows into selling his church to the company, she'd have her promotion.
But seeing John's charismatic faith and the community he'd built among his parishioners put Caroline's agenda to shame. And his genuine caring for her warmed Caroline right down to her soul. Still, a personal tragedy had cost Caroline the faith she'd known as a child. Could John's love now make Caroline see what mattered most in life?
