I am a woodcarver and have carved several small carousel horses. I am currently working on a half-size version and need really good reference materials. This book has been of immense help. The carousel animals chosen for the book are excellent and the photography is truly outstanding. To complement the photography, the printing in the book is remarkable. The author (and photographer) is knowledgeable so the information and the presentation are both of the highest quality. I have a considerable collection of books relating to wooden, hand carved carousel animals and this is among the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compliment to this book, August 15, 2010
This review is from: Carousel Animals: Artistry in Motion (Hardcover)
If you found this book useful and enjoy wood carving and carousel horses, you will also love this new book coming out in October 2010 by The Connecticut Press called "Flying Horses: The Golden Age of American Carousel Art, 1870 - 1930.". It contains over 150 high quality images of carousel horses, many of which were from Coney Island, and their history. The photographs are superb so you can really appreciate the wood carving details, as well as the history of their carvers. You can get more info on Facebook by searching "Flying Horses."
