5.0 out of 5 stars Carpad does the trick
I ordered the 17' x 6.4' Carpad because I live in the snowbelt of Northern Michigan and my one-car garage floor gets very wet from the snow, sand, and salt that falls from my Toyota Matrix each night, so I needed something to contain the water. My Carpad arrived 12/29/03. It is contained in a compact square box and is made of thick, high quality vinyl. It comes with four...

I talked my sweetie into parking out in the January rain for two weeks while I waited for a pair of these things to protect the garage in our new home. Imagine my delight when I open the box and find a plastic tarp and four pieces of garden hose. It's a nice heavy tarp, sure, but that "1-inch raised flexible edge on all 4 sides" -- it's literally four pieces of ordinary green garden hose that you're supposed to slip into pockets in the plastic tarp.

For its considerable price, I expected something considerably more substantial. I splurge on all kinds of gadgets, silly and otherwise, but I wouldn't be comfortable paying more than 20 or 30% of the advertised price for this product.

I don't doubt that it will do all the things the manufacturer claims, but I'm not waiting long enough to find out. This is going back in the box tonight. One good thing -- it comes out of the box so severely creased it'll be easy to refold.

I have purchased literally hundreds of items from Amazon.com; this is by far the biggest disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars vinyl sheet and green hard plastic garden hose?????, August 31, 2004

By far the most disappointing thing I have ever bought from Amazon.com

Vinyl itself is very soft and light and flaps around even when you place it on the ground.

This cheap piece of viny has a folded edge where you are supposed to insert pieces of supplied garden hose to make the border!!!

Do not waste your money on this....please!!

It comes with four precut garden hose lengths which are inserted into the side pockets to provide the raised edge to contain the snowmelt. Hoses make sense since you can run a car over them without doing any damage. After reading the instructions, I unfolded the pad inside the house, uncurled the hoses, and left them overnight to warm and become pliable. Upon returning home from work 12/29/03, I left the car outside the garage (after drawing a chalk line on the garage floor to note where the tireguards should be installed on the Carpad) and went to work. Because my garage floor was already wet, I put down a cheap tarp first. Since the garage was cold (29F), I assembled the Carpad indoors. Why be uncomfortable? And it was a snap; took less than 15 minutes. The hoses slide in easily and it only takes a moment to cut off any excess, remove the PCV pipe at the end, and reinsert it. Contrary to the instructions, you don't need another person to hold the other end of the Carpad while the hose is being inserted. I just sprayed the inside of each hose pocket with a vinyl cleaner for lubrication and the hose easily slid in. I did use duct tape at the corners where the hoses meet. After completing three sides, I picked up the Carpad and carried it into the garage. Because the hoses are pliable, the assembled Carpad was very easy to move. Once it was positioned where I wanted it, I installed the "tireguards" (heavier plastic strips with adhesive on one side, placed over the welded seam of the edges the car tires cross), then slid the hose in the last pocket and presto! The job was done. Opened the garage door, drove the car in, and that was that. The next morning I saw that the Carpad was doing its job, containing the snow and other gunk that had melted from the car so it didn't spread throughout the garage. It took maybe five minutes to mop up the water. In the spring I plan to remove the hoses, fold up the pad, and store it until next winter. The Carpad does exactly what it is advertised to do, is easy to install, and best of all, it's made in America. I would highly recommend it. By the way, Amazon's price is sixty bucks cheaper than other Internet sellers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Results from Carpads, October 14, 2004
I have used three Carpads and am now ordering another for a family member. My experience with Carpads is entirely favorable. I live in Wyoming where winters last 7 to 8 months, and cars often accumulate large quantities of snow and chemical slush that then melts onto the garage floor. The Carpads reliably contain this runoff. Small punctures and cuts can are readily repairable with duct tape. With reasonable car, my Carpads last at least five seasons. I have also used competing products, and they did not perform as well as Carpads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, worth the cost, February 10, 2004
By A Customer
I was reluctant to spend this much money on a piece of plastic tarp and 4 garden hoses after reading one of the reviews on Amazon. So I went to Home Depot to check out other options. After spending some time there I just couldn't find any water-proof heavy grade materal that I can get in one piece to cover the garage floor. Sure there are some nice floor materials - but the prices start at $2 per foot with a typical width of only 3 feet. And I would have to make sure it is properly installed with some kind of water barrier on the sides - otherwise water would just end up in my basement. It was shaping up to be a weekend long project costing at least $50 with uncertain results.

I ended up just ordering a 16x7.5 Carpad from Amazon. The tarp is heavy duty indeed - unless you use studded snow tires it should last for years. The borders are slightly raised; you just feel a little bump as you park your car - but they are secure enough to hold gallons of water from melting snow. I am quite happy with my purchase so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did the trick!, January 19, 2006
I bought the carpad because I have a spot by my steps in the garage where the water was settling when snow and slush melted off my car. I live in Minnesota, so there's alot of it! When I got the carpad I installed it right away. The only problem I had was my own fault because I didn't let the hose warm up before installing it and it was still a little curly from being wound up, but it flattened out when we had a warm spell. I didn't put the hose piece on the end by the garage door because the drainage is good there and it's easier to drive over without it. It's also much easier to sweep it off when needed without the hose there. It's slippery if it's wet when you get out of the car, but not nearly as bad as having the whole floor wet I no longer have a big wet, slippery spot in front of my steps! The carpad keeps the water on it and not on the garage floor. I'm very glad I purchased it because it took care of my problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars It works fine as long as it lasts, June 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The CarPad works fine when new but it didn't last as long as I had hoped.

The vinyl dries out and cracks after about 2 or 3 years and then it no longer
provides much value. It would be nicer if they used a better quality vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to save the floor of my garage, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
The CARPAD is a great way to keep the garage floor clean and proctect the floor's finish from the grime and crud that falls off a vehicle in the mud and snow. It fits the vehicle perfectly, and contains all the water from snow and ice caked on the vehicle when pulling in from a wet winter day. And it is quite easy to clean as well, just drag it outside on a nice day, and spray it off.

I have 2 CARPADS, and I would reccomend it to anyone who values their garage as much as their vehicle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible company, July 19, 2011
Really, beware of ordering from them.

I ordered 2 items - I did receive one, it took almost two months, but OK. As one reviewer wrote, it is heavy plastic with 4 plastic "hoses." You decide if it's worth $180.

Then, when the second item came, 2 months later, it was the wrong item - a small carpad that I cannot use. The company nevertheless charged me $80, the price of the item I originally ordered, whereas the item I was sent is priced at $38 on their website. I sent 3 emails - no reply. I left several telephone messages. No replies. This was in June. I called again July 19, another answering machine, no human being. This company has overcharged me for something I never even ordered, and six weeks later they still have not rectified this. I'm now dealing with Visa to dispute the charge. Carpad seems to be on the brink. Don't deal with them.
