Editorial Reviews

Swedish power metal band Steel Attack started out in 1995. The lyrics are great once again along with the vocals and playing. Keyboards are used more in this album then their last. It's a slower album. This is a pure progressive metal album like their last one but more. 'Carpe DiEnd,' the band's sixth release, contains 12 tracks and a bonus video. (2008)

4.0 out of 5 stars Seize the Steel!, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Carpe Diend (Audio CD)
It's been a while since I last heard a Steel Attack album (OK, it was their 1999 debut Where Mankind Fails), but I thought I had a pretty good idea what to expect when I slid their latest effort Carpe DiEnd into the CD player. I was expecting the Manowar/Hammerfall knockoff I first heard on the debut, so imagine my surprise when after the introductory track the crushingly heavy "The Evil in Me" kicked in! It's obvious that Steel Attack has come a long way in recent years. Of course, it doesn't hurt that nearly every band member present on the debut has since moved on to other things.

Steel Attack is still very much a power metal band, but on Carpe DiEnd they're a heavy, angry power metal band. This is power metal like Symphorce, Angel Dust, and Thunderstone are power metal. The roots are the same, but it's a much heavier effort with a darker focus - no mighty warriors or magic swords here. It's still a melodic album (I've yet to hear a Swedish band that wasn't melodic), but the crushing riffs are the driving force (that and Ronnie Hemlin's dynamic vocals). It's also a very polished, very professional sounding album.

Carpe DiEnd is definitely not your typical everyday power metal album. If you like your power metal on the heavier side, you'll want to check this out. If, like me, you gave up on this band a long time ago, it's time for another look. Don't say I didn't warn you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Carpe DiEnd, March 6, 2008
This review is from: Carpe Diend (Audio CD)
This is Steel Attack's latest offering Carpe DiEnd.
This album is a bit different from DS, or I should say they take this album to the next level.

It still continues to go down the dark path as DS. The lyrics are great once again along with the vocals and playing.

Keyboards are used more in this album then their last. It's a slower album. This is a pure progressive metal album like their last one but more.

The song Carpe DiEnd is an intro, an amazing one I should say. The Evil In Me is an awesome song, the keyboards go great in it. The only thing I have a problem with in this song is the voice box that Ronny uses in it. I don't like when singers use those, sometimes it can be cool though but otherwise.....Of course it's just my opinion. I do have to say that the voice box does fit the song well!

I Keep Falling is a great song that has the best chorus on the entire album! AWESOME!
"Perpetual Solitude", the verses on that song are amazing along with a great solo to start the song off.

Not to forget the amazing ballad of Entrance To Heaven Denied, a song that everyone should hear. "Crawl" is another song with a great chorus and awesome lyrics!

The vocals are great in For Whom I bleed?!

The standout tracks to me are, The Evil In Me, I Keep Falling, Holy Is Evil, Perpetual Solitude, Angels, Entrance To Heaven Denied and Crawl.

Go and pick up this album. A job well done on the album!
