Book Description

June 1, 2003
SOLID AS A ROCK . . .

No one wanted roots more than Rock Dempsey, who worked as a minister and a carpenter in his small community. He dreamed of meeting a woman whose feet were firmly planted on the ground, a companion to share everything with. Sometimes this dream seemed too far from reality. But then he met Ana Hanson.

Tearoom owner Ana Hanson felt she worked harder than most. Nothing ever came easy and, to make matters worse, she'd never had luck in the romance department. It was difficult to believe in faith . . . until she met Rock Dempsey, who was there in her time of need. Who would have thought that what she needed . . . was him?

Sunset Island -- where love, family and faith bring the Dempsey sons home again . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Sunset Island Series Book 1, July 10, 2009
This review is from: The Carpenter's Wife (Sunset Island Series #1) (Love Inspired #211) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book of another excellent series, by Lenora Worth. It starts out with a son, Rock, that is hurting over the fact that his mother had to work so hard to provide for him and his 2 brothers, Stone & Clay. In fact she worked so hard she buried herself in her work. Rock is carrying a LOT of baggage due to this and with that he wants a "traditional wife" one that wants to stay at home and cook and clean. Now in his 30's he can't for the life of him figure out why he can't find her. Then he meets the Tea Room lady, Ana Hanson, she has worked so hard to start her business and so wants it to be a success, she is everything that Rock figures he does NOT want. He fights the fact that he is "falling" for what he figures is the same type of woman as his mother. Who by the way, has handpicked Ana for him. He finds himself drawn toward Ana, but fights it every step of the way. This book makes one think of how many of us, carry baggage that affect our own lives, and how much we need to deal with it as it can hurt us and others we love and care about so much. This book is another excellent book by Lenora Worth! This is a very good series and one that I enjoyed reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story, June 27, 2009
This review is from: The Carpenter's Wife (Sunset Island Series #1) (Love Inspired #211) (Mass Market Paperback)
What I liked most about this romance is that both protagonists grow emotionally by the end of the story. Reading an article on marriage, I noticed one quote in particular from a happily married woman; she states that if you have a list of ten things you want in a mate but find a good person with seven of those ten things, you should ask yourself honestly if you could live without the three things on your list that the person doesn't have.

That's what happens in this story. A woman opens a tea room/art gallery on Sunset Island, and a handsome carpenter helps her build cabinetry for her business. Along the way, she realizes that he's very old-fashioned (pregnant and barefoot old fashioned) and she wonders if he'd change his views to accomodate her wanting to work.

Along the way, though, the woman realizes that she does want a family as well, and since she's happy cooking (she runs a tea room), she'd be happy to be somewhat of an old fashioned wife, albeit one with a business and a college degree.

The fun of the story isn't the eccentric island characters, but rather watching two adults who are nearly perfect for each other fall in love. They make each other better, and that's what a good romance should do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man of Faith, March 30, 2009
This review is from: The Carpenter's Wife (Sunset Island Series #1) (Love Inspired #211) (Mass Market Paperback)
It is good to read about a young hard working man so full of faith. I enjoyed visualizing as they all worked out the details of the kitchen and dining room of the new tea and art venue ~ I found myself wishing I could go see them.
