Melodic death metal featuring Anders Friden,
By
This review is from: Carpet (Audio CD)
Long out of print, Ceremonial Oath's 1995 album Carpet is a 31-minute blast of At the Gates style melodic Swedish death metal. Ceremonial Oath wasn't of the same caliber as bands like At the Gates, In Flames, or Dark Tranquillity, but they do a solid enough job. Honestly, I've yet to run across a bad Swedish melodic death metal band from that era. The main reason the album is noteworthy is that In Flames vocalist Anders Friden provides the vocals for Ceremonial Oath.Carpet is a solid album, full of fast and ferocious songs, including a particularly fierce cover of the Iron Maiden classic "Hallowed Be Thy Name". It's worth checking out if you're into melodic death metal, and particularly if you're an In Flames fan, but it's probably not unique or memorable enough to make it worth paying a collector's rate. It definitely can't compare to albums like Lunar Strain or The Gallery. Track Listing: 1. the Day I Buried 2. Dreamsong 3. Carpet 4. the Shadowed End 5. One of Us/Nightshade 6. Immortalized 7. Hallowed Be Thy Name |
