AD HOMINEM CRITIQUES ARE BESIDE THE POINT...,
By
This review is from: Carr Toons (Audio CD)
I *DO* feel sorry for the carefully-unidentified first reviewer...who
was clearly offended by Ms. Carr's snottiness (and whether it was justified by his initial contact we shall never know). But THAT was a personal affront. It must have colored his/her reaction to the singer's CD... resulting in a "review" which was definitely not "on point." If anyone out there in "Listener Land" remembers the magnificent Irene Kral, they will be glad for the talents of Amanda Carr--no matter how she may condescend to hopeful correspondents. We need to keep separate our personal quarrels from our opinions about up-and-coming jazz singers. They DO need all of the positive reinforcement we can give them. And Amanda Carr deserves much better than mean, revenge-laden AD HOMINEM attacks. It is patently unfair to use a semi-public forum like the Amazon Review Section to "get even" with a person that you feel has "dumped" on you. In THIS forum, the MUSIC is *ALL* that matters.

I bought this CD and gave it as a Christmas gift. It was so well recieved that I bought another one for myself. Great Jazz standards sung beautifully. Amanda's original songs are also beautiful. Thank you so much!

Lots of anticipation after reading about her on her site. Then I got the album and it didn't really live up. But, I did like the picture on the front.Next time, I'll listen to the samples before investing the money.

Terrible pun,
By MySecretIdentity "MySecretIdentity" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carr Toons (Audio CD)
I was an intern at a Boston studio around a year ago, and was told to send out emails to local Boston musicians, offering them free studio time. I checked out Amanda's website and sent her a kind email, telling her I was admirable of her voice. Instead of getting a thank you, I got the most RUDE and CONDESCENDING email that I could ever imagine. She sarcastically mocked the integrity of the studio I interned at ("What do you have, Pro Tools?"), and not only pointed out my misspelling of a word, but went into a long sarcastic tirade of my misspelling ("What about your costumer service? I don't see any costumes"). Jeez, mistakes happen. Build a bridge and get over yourself. Being a musician myself, I've never been so insulted by a self-proclaimed "diva". She brags about being in the music business for 30 years, yet nobody outside of a 30 mile radius of Boston has ever heard of her. (Trust me, I graduated from the top jazz school in the country and I don't see her CD's in the school music library). Her career is limited to gigging in small jazz clubs around the Boston area. Call me crazy, but that doesn't sound very diva-like, and certainly doesn't call for the attitude.
I mean wow, she sang on a Jordan's Furniture commercial. Whooptie do! Oh and she sang the National Anthem at Fenway Park a few times. Let me tell you something dear. Unless you're a famous singer (and trust me, you aren't), you will be forgotten once that first pitch is pitched. While she may have a nice voice, she's no Ella, Billie, or Nina. Buy her CD if you want, but don't send her an email complimenting her! She clearly already knows that she's the world's gift to everything ever. |
