Relatively easy to assemble. High quality components. Cars are well made. Lots of detail, including illuminated headlights. Skill required to keep on the track, and that's a good thing. Otherwise there is no challenge or learning. Way better than a virtual online or video game. Real physics here. My kids are responsible, but still 7 and 9 years old. The cars are pretty heavy duty and can take abuse. (Inexplicably, this was shrunk wrap, yet one of the cars seem to have come used. The brushes on the bottom were worn and clearly that car alone was not brand new. Amazon adjusted it immediately.)

Picked this up from Amazon on special this Xmas to play with my 5 year old daughter. I remember my slot cars growing up with the little pegs in the bottom and what a pain it was to use but after reading up online decided to give these a shot. Let's just say I am more than impressed with the set and after 15 mins of instruction my daughter and I can race side by side for minutes on end with no crashes.

This set includes (2) 1/32 scale cars that are about the size of the palm of your hand. They have lighted head lights and tail lights that really add to the realism and is great fun racing in the dark. The track is a very high quality plastic that clips together end to end with the next piece. There are simple clips that you install prior to snapping them together that slide to lock the tracks together. The locking mechanism is strong enough that you can break a large section of track apart and move it around without taking it all apart. Guard rails are provided for the corners to keep the cars from flying off the track as well as bridge supports to add some elevation changes.
Don't let the overall track dimensions scare you, 7' x 7' is a pretty large area but you don't have to use all the track and you can configure the track in any orientation to fit your room.

Overall this is a great beginner set that is both durable, well designed and fun to use. My daughter is learning both fine motor skills and eye hand coordination since you need both to run it from fast down the straights to slowing down through the corners to keep it on the track.
