This is a great slot car track. My five year old son and I play with it together and he has gotten quite good driving the cars around the track. Initially had some difficulties keeping the cars on the track due to the new brushes. Make sure that you work on them so that they lay as flat as possible to the car. If they are keeping the front tires off of the track then you will constantly be sliding off.

Over all this is a very good quality slot-car track. My only other comment is that it is not made for children under 8y.o. Relatively easy for an adult to assemble. Not as easy for a child. Good quality though, and durable. Already a good size. Can easily be added to and be huge. A good choice.

Tons of fun for my 9, 7, and 6 year olds. The cars do sometimes go off the track, but that's to be expected when they are racing each other and hitting the "turbo" button to gain more speed. Great starter set and I like the fact that I can add more cars or tracks in the future.

I did all the research before opting to buy this racetrack. Here are the pros and cons every buyer should be aware of:

First off, the design, quality and durability of this set are very good. There is nothing cheap about this set. The tracks fit together precisely and snugly and there was never a lost connection due to a track problem. Be aware that the assembly instructions leave a great deal to be desired. They are not "step by step", but if you lay everything about before you start assembly, its fairly obvious where everything goes from the pictures. Start to finish, plan on at least two hours for assembly. No tools needed. So far, so good.

The problem with the set is a problem that seems to plaque every slot car set - how to keep the cars moving and on the tracks. Be prepared for a great deal of annoyance and frustration with this. With practice, you will find a speed to keep the cars on the track. Veterans will tell you that after 5-6 hours of use that the car's contact brushes will "flatten and break in" and the cars will be more stable. But try explaining this to a child who just wants to play with their new toy - and which adult is going to spend that much time with this set? Veterans will argue that this part of the fun and charm of the set - keeping your car in the track, I found it just plain annoying. In 2010 (2011!) there should be a better design for these cars that would keep the cars on the track from the start and not require constant fiddling with the brushes underneath. This hasn't changed in decades.

This leads to another problem many buyers do not seem to be aware of - these sets are not designed to be set up and taken down and they take up a LOT of space. So unless if you have an old ping pong table or something like it in your basement where you can set this up and leave it, do not buy this set if you plan on setting it up and taking it down frequently.

All in all - I was pleased with the set buy returned it because we spent much more time fiddling with the cars than actually playing with it, after an hour my sons gave up, I gave up an hour later. When it worked, it was great and fun. When it didn't, you just wanted to walk away because there is no easy or simple way to correct the problem with the cars flying off the track.

Item is fun but one car came broken. Contacted seller and was told to deal with manufacturer directly and it will cost money to ship back for replacement. I guess that's the difference from buying local where you can take it back.

I found this set easy to use, durable except for the useless gaurdrails that break immediately. Good buy for the price.

I bought this race track set for my niece and nephew. Before I gave it to them, I assembled it to make sure all the parts were there and to test its' operation. The first set came without cars, but I called Amazon and as usual, they have great customer service and overnighted a new set to me. It assembles very easily within minutes and I didn't even use the instructions. My husband and I had fun playing with it, though I could see kids getting frustrated with the cars flying off the track (or they might like that and do it on purpose....which might cause an early death to the cars) b/c you have to give the cars just the right amount of juice when going around turns and through the loop or they fly off or fall off. But, it's still fun and I wish I would have had this set as a child.

I bought this for my 3 year old son who loves Spiderman. He was very excited when he opened it. As I was setting it up the tabs on one of the tracks broke off, and the race track is a bit flimsy. It has not broken from being used, but we have to be careful around it because it feels like it would break easily. The problem with that is that the cars come off the track without too much trouble so you usually have to go get them after three or four laps, which means going around the track and being careful not to touch it.

We've had a lot of fun with this so far but I don't think I will be able to disassemble it without breaking off more tabs, or worse, so it is stuck where it is at (and takes up a decent amount of room) until it breaks.

My kids (6 and 4) have good fine motor skills so I thought I would give this a try even though the recommended age is 8+. It took me FOREVER to assemble it solely based on the fact that the instructions were pictorial only. However, once I got the hang of it, I appreciated how good the construction is in that the pieces snap together and hold well. They are catching on and quickly learning how to control the speed around turns and to use the turbo boost around the loop. I STRONGLY agree with the previous comments (and were glad to have read them) that the mesh has to be fanned out underneath the car and that it also must lie as flat to the car as possible. Overall, we are pleased so far and are happy to know that we can add on to the set if it continues to be a popular toy. The other drawbacks worth mentioning are that the remote connections often come loose and that the illustrated partitions attached to the rounded corners sometimes slide out of place. I would recommend this toy.

I gave it to my 4 year old for xmas He loves it and it brings me back to my child hood It took a little time to assemble although if you want directions in english good luck but easy to figure out and lots of fun I am actually looking to expand thanks
