good music,

I like the way Andrew phrases things: "David, he chased God's own heart/All I ever seem to chase is me" and "Give us faith to be strong/Give us strength to be faithful." It's a good CD that encourages me to think about the way I live day-to-day and the great hope I'm called to.I bought this CD because I heard Andrew toured with Caedmon's Call for the summer. His sound lacks their edge; it's more like Rich Mullins in its folksy sound (and use of instruments like a hammered dulcimer and pennywhistle). This is a mellow, relaxing CD I recommend to put your focus on the right things every day and have great verses to run through your head as you live.

Great CD!,

I was first exposed to Andrew when he opened for Fernando Ortega at a recent concert in San Diego. His wit, clear sound and stylish guitar playing (Gabriel) prompted me to buy the CD. Lyrics are very cool. Happended to meet his wife, Jaime, (back up vocals) and two adorable little boys (that are touring with him) in the parking lot as I was leaving, and I'm encouraged by their commitment to touring and sharing their music. "Nothing to Say" stirs the soul with visions of driving into the New Mexico/Arizona canyons and getting raptured by God's majesty. "Shilo" is excellent. This CD is full of great songs! Check out his site at www.andrew-peterson.com. I love acoustic guitar and clear vocals. Find Andrew's vocals pleasent and sorta James Taylor like. If you like acoustic guitar and folk music you'll love this CD.

I had never heard of Andrew Peterson when I bought this CD, but I am now a devoted follower of his work. The music is beautiful, and the lyrics are inspiring. My children, ages 5 and 8 enjoy it as well...We are counting the days to the release of his new album, due out in September 2001. If you are looking for music you can enjoy with your whole family and that will leave you with an uplifted heart, you have found it in Andrew Peterson.

If you are Christian, and you like folk/rock/pop music, you must own everything Andrew Peterson releases. I'm not kidding. He's being compared to Rich Mullins but I find his variety of music wider than Rich's. This is the first album I picked up and I'll be buying his albums for myself and my friends until he stops recording them. Thought-provoking, worshipful, praising God, uplifting mankind music. Buy it now!

a truly gifted musician!,

I've been hearing two or three of Andrew's songs on the radio for about 3 months now and when you compare his work with so many others out there that are mediocre, well he just stands out like a green tree in the middle of a desert. I'm just now getting around to buying this cd, but only because I didn't know the artist's name for so long. Anyhow, if you are reading this Andrew, you will go far as long as you keep that sensitive, heart for God that I know you have, and be careful not to let success go to your head. You will be successful my brother! Your ability to put the words together with the right music is best compared to John Denver's ability --- and any gifted musician understands that he was a poet in his own right! Spread the word people, we've got us a very gifted christian musician and we need to encourage him! God bless you Andrew! And by the way, I live in Arizona and I agree, it can catch you by surprise! Been there myself many times.

Stirring CD that challenges and strrengthens your faith,

Andrew Peterson is a poet. His lyrics are deep and convincing. I will go along with the fact that he is very influnced by Rich Mullins. His songs really have a "Mullinsesque" feel to them. I think that he is in line to become the next Rich. He speaks from his heart. I keep trying to pick a favorite song on this CD and come up at a loss. I think it comes down to a toss up between, Faith To Be Strong, Nothing To Say and The Chasing Song. I highly recommend this CD. Don't just buy one for yourself buy a copy for everyone you know!

I listened to this CD almost every day for at least three months, and I didn't get tired of it. Its sound is gentle, down-to-earth, and very heartfelt. "The Chasing Song" is a fun song which really makes a point about the extent of our self-involvement. My favorite song is probably "Shiloh," named for the artist's parents' house, which evokes a longing for home, both our home on earth and our home in heaven: "The farther I have wandered off, the fonder I have grown." Andrew Peterson stays away from clichés, using instead thoughtful and compelling images and lyrics to stir the listener's heart. This is a wonderful and very enjoyable collection of songs.

Music For the Soul,

I don't know very much about Andrew Peterson but when I heard the song The Chasing Song I knew I had to hear more. Andrew Peterson has a voice that will bring you to your knees. Thoughtful and reflective lyrics that drive to the heart. Rich Mullins came instantly to mind the first time I heard Andrew Peterson. The song Rise and Shine has to be my favorite. Was it the fury of God's anger or was it the fury of His love. Wow! Words are hard to find to express that one.

Poetic imagery combined with beautiful musicianship,

My entire family loves this CD. The tunes are catchy but the very clever lyrics are thought-provoking as well: "Rise and shine, the night is gone and the sun (Son?) is shining in your eyes". In classic folk-music style Andrew's lyrics lead one through a tale, with often startling connections: but more startling still is the purity of the musicianship, the obvious celtic influence, and the addition of interesting musical touches (inspired hammered dulcimer performances, steel guitar, fabulous Irish pennywhistle riffs). Every song on this album is excellent---not a dud among them. The fact that this is a Christian album, with praise to God in every song, is an extra added bonus. Andy and Gabe are extremely talented musicians, and wonderful in concert: I vastly prefer this album---professionally produced and augmented by many excellent musicians---over Andy's first album "Walk".

Fresh New Christian Folk Music,
By Mark Laudeman (South Bend, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carried Along (Audio CD)
I'm excited by this recent release. Andrew's music has the best of all of the elements that characterize the acoustic "new folk" style - insightful lyrics, wonderful stories, fresh acoustic production - sparse but nicely arranged, some of the finest vocal harmonies I've ever heard and an overall unique sound. Its hard to do an album like this without that element of sameness that settles in after a few songs. Surprisingly, the mix of music is quite varied and each song has a strength that makes for repeated listening.
