Editorial Reviews

2009 release from the highly acclaimed Hip Hop duo, their seventh album overall. Fans of PUTS know that, unlike other Hip Hop/Rap artists, there are no outside producers or of-the-moment guest emcees. People Under The Stairs are a completely true independent Hip Hop act. Beats, rhymes, scratching, and chorus are all done by PUTS' members Thes One and Double K themselves. Upbeat, crazy, balls to the wall and ridiculous, Carried Away follows in true PUTS tradition. Recorded entirely on reel to reel with tons of Rock samples, distorted vocals, lots of cussing, drum machines, delays, yelling, the works. Wrap that all up with nods to A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, beer and Luther Vandross and you're guaranteed to get carried away!

this album came out of nowhere! its been on constant rotation, all i can say is, i appreciate the effort by tha p. and i will always show support live or taped, whatever. if u buy this album u must go to a live show--theyre some of the best in the industry hands down--check the reviews, bonnano, coachella, a3c, whatever. anyway, solid album, and even though im uber biased, id have to say i doesnt top OST (dont think anything ever will), but to borrow from the previous review, yes, its more of a continuation of FUN DMC, and i think that was their intention when they put this together. they were definitely riding a vibe, a good vibe from a great couple years for them. fave trax, check the vibe, listen, creepshow, beer, 80 blocks from sliverlake, step off, trippin at the disco is definitely not your avg P track, and its fun to hear them step out of their boundaries and do a fun track.

Being a long time PUTS fan, I was thinking to myself when this album came out, can this be as good as "Stepfather" or "O.S.T."? It certainly is. This album seems to be a excellent continuation of Fun DMC. More party anthems, more fresh funky beats, more tight rhymes about the beer you drink to getting your teeth fixed. Yeah, that's right -- getting your teeth fixed. For all the B-Boys and B-Girls, pick this up. You will have plenty of beats to get down to.

7th Album - PUTS What can I say. I've been a fan since I first heard them 5 years ago. Over their entire catalog, the P does not disappoint. About a year after FUN DMC, Thes One surprised all of us on their official web board at [...] by telling us that they were dropping another album. In my opinion, this album is as good as anything else they've put out there.

If you like hip hop, and I mean hip hop like on Backspin on Sirius, then go get this album now!

Much like Fun DMC and all of their albums (well except for Stepfather, I never really could get too into that album no matter how hard I tried), this is yet another solid release from PUTS! This album will be in rotation for me for YEARS to come, and pick this one up too...you won't be sorry!

another refreshing album dropped by the P. if you're sick of the radio or want to experience music almost in a genre in itself, check out their music. I've gotten people interested in underground for the first time by bumping all their albums.

OK, so when I heard FUN DMC I wasn't blown away. I thought Stepfather was incredible, and was kind of disappointed with the follow-up. However, when I heard PUTS put out yet another record, I straight ordered the vinyl and waited to hear it on the stereo.

All I can say is - wow. PUTS are not only at the top of their game, they are revolutionizing hip-hop in the most clandestine way. It's all in front of you pumping through the speakers, but lyrically it's whispering in your ear. I know OST is the token "classic" for these guys, but Carred Away is now my favorite because of the ground it breaks.

With this record PUTS takes into consideration two main things: 1) Their legacy, their ethic, and their ability to channel the funk until the end of time, and 2) The way our culture is changing, how the internet disrupts language and creates barriers, how present cultural trends are more fabricated than plastic breasts, and the subsequent importance PARTYING.

This is high art. But it's only high art in that it craddles you; it's music you can dance to, get drunk to, just straight have a good time and not care about anything. That is the central idea behind being Carried Away.
