Biography

PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS
EST: 1997 (LOS ANGELES, CA)

People Under the Stairs’ members Thes One and Double K have spent over 10 years and 7 albums taking hip-hop back to turntables, dusty grooves, break-dancing, graffiti, and rocking jams about everyday life. This is the core of what PUTS was founded on and what sets them apart from pretty much everything else out there ... Read more in Amazon's People Under The Stairs Store

Editorial Reviews

2009 release from the highly acclaimed Hip Hop duo, their seventh album overall. Fans of PUTS know that, unlike other Hip Hop/Rap artists, there are no outside producers or of-the-moment guest emcees. People Under The Stairs are a completely true independent Hip Hop act. Beats, rhymes, scratching, and chorus are all done by PUTS' members Thes One and Double K themselves. Upbeat, crazy, balls to the wall and ridiculous, Carried Away follows in true PUTS tradition. Recorded entirely on reel to reel with tons of Rock samples, distorted vocals, lots of cussing, drum machines, delays, yelling, the works. Wrap that all up with nods to A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, beer and Luther Vandross and you're guaranteed to get carried away!

5.0 out of 5 stars musical dope October 18, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
this album came out of nowhere! its been on constant rotation, all i can say is, i appreciate the effort by tha p. and i will always show support live or taped, whatever. if u buy this album u must go to a live show--theyre some of the best in the industry hands down--check the reviews, bonnano, coachella, a3c, whatever. anyway, solid album, and even though im uber biased, id have to say i doesnt top OST (dont think anything ever will), but to borrow from the previous review, yes, its more of a continuation of FUN DMC, and i think that was their intention when they put this together. they were definitely riding a vibe, a good vibe from a great couple years for them. fave trax, check the vibe, listen, creepshow, beer, 80 blocks from sliverlake, step off, trippin at the disco is definitely not your avg P track, and its fun to hear them step out of their boundaries and do a fun track.

4.0 out of 5 stars The P keeps Pumpin' October 14, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Being a long time PUTS fan, I was thinking to myself when this album came out, can this be as good as "Stepfather" or "O.S.T."? It certainly is. This album seems to be a excellent continuation of Fun DMC. More party anthems, more fresh funky beats, more tight rhymes about the beer you drink to getting your teeth fixed. Yeah, that's right -- getting your teeth fixed. For all the B-Boys and B-Girls, pick this up. You will have plenty of beats to get down to.

5.0 out of 5 stars PUTS - Bring it again and again November 10, 2009
Format:Audio CD
7th Album - PUTS What can I say. I've been a fan since I first heard them 5 years ago. Over their entire catalog, the P does not disappoint. About a year after FUN DMC, Thes One surprised all of us on their official web board at [...] by telling us that they were dropping another album. In my opinion, this album is as good as anything else they've put out there.

If you like hip hop, and I mean hip hop like on Backspin on Sirius, then go get this album now!

4.0 out of 5 stars PUTS are back in fine form October 15, 2009
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Total surprise release--who would imagine we'd get two PUTS albums two years in a row?!?! This one has far less filler than the previous two albums (which were also quite good). PUTS are in top form--rapping about LA, barbecues, beer, weed, hip hop, and LA. Did I say they rap about LA? This my favorite album of the year and one of PUTS finest. Here's how I'd rank them:

1. "O.S.T."
2. Question in the Form of an Answer
3. ...Or Stay Tuned
4. Carried Away
5. The Next Step *
6. Fun DMC
7. Stepfather

* If you count American Men Vol 1., maybe I'd stick it at number 4.

** This list changes daily.

PUTS are half the reason why I still live in LA. They make LA sound like a much cooler place than it actually is. Maybe I just need to finally eat a pastrami Belly Buster at Busy Bee Market to get the full PUTS Los Angeles experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOLID! December 3, 2009
By D3
Format:Audio CD
Much like Fun DMC and all of their albums (well except for Stepfather, I never really could get too into that album no matter how hard I tried), this is yet another solid release from PUTS! This album will be in rotation for me for YEARS to come, and pick this one up too...you won't be sorry!
