Great rainy day read,

This review is from: Carried Away (The Wrong Bed) (Harlequin Temptation) (Paperback)
...Heroine: lush, well-rounded Hard-working ICU nurse Christy Russell has collapsed in a heap in her best friend's bed for some well-deserved rest after pulling a triple(!) shift at the hospital. But her sweet slumber is soon interrupted when the man of her dreams drags her from her cozy nest to his waiting car. Trevor McQuillen is tired of his constant on-the-go military life. And though the handsome former Special Ops commander is ready to settle down in one place and get busy developing his new business, he certainly has no plans to fall in love. But how can he resist the tousle-haired, chocolate-eyed bombshell he just accidentally kidnapped? What worked for me: Once I suspended my disbelief over the unlikely opening scenario, I found the situation to be quite funny. (Well, it's funny as long as it never happens to me. Heaven forbid!) There's plenty of sexual tension to be had in this Harlequin Temptation "wrong bed" series addition, and I had a great time watching the relationship develop between Christy and Trevor. I loved the descriptions of Christy: curves-upon-curves, cleavage all over. There was a dress size attributed to her at the very beginning of the book, but it seems like an arbitrary number was picked and applied to her. The phrases used to describe Christy seemed to belong to a woman a few sizes (or more) larger. So don't let that smallish sounding number make you put the book down. If you were looking for a plus-size heroine, you found one in this book. Honest! :^) What didn't work for me: I couldn't truly get into this story for one reason and one reason only: the hero's name also happens to be the same as a member of my family! That's always a kill-joy. :^P (Believe me though, name aside the hero was very enjoyable!) This was a fast, fun read. It's the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. :^) (There are some fairly steamy spots, so reader beware.) If you liked "Carried Away" you might also enjoy "Too Much Temptation" or "Dear Cupid".

I just really didn't like the main character Christy. I thought it was funny how they made the bride Kate seem snivelling and conniving for trying to bring secondary characters Viv and Eric together. Christy was doing everything in her power to keep them apart which I only took as her being jealous and manipulative. Jeez with a friend like her for relationship support you don't need enemies. Kauffman tries to redeem her a bit by telling her friend when she takes her husband back and moves to sweden she is happy for them but I still think she is jealous. And her insecurity about relationships is so ridiculous it doesn't sound like she had gotten hurt herself to make her act this way it was all second hand info that made her shy away from relationships and her fear of lightning ugh. I found nothing strong ahout her character. I really couldn't believe that Trevor would stay with an insecure whining workaholic lije Christy unless he was masochistic. I gave this 3 stars because some of the dialogue and scenes were quite funny if I could have just gotten past the annoying jealous main character.

What a fun read. A real Blast. Loved the characters and thought the story line was fun. Lots of laughter and lovin'. I really enjoyed this book but then all of Donnas' books are so great. I have read everything she has written and look forward to each and every book she publishes. WOW what a writer. I am constantly surprised by the different styles she can write. Everything from paranormal to sexy hot Blaze books. If you have not read this author you MUST ....Thanks again Donna for another fun read. Another reader in Florida...or where ever I am at the time...

So so read,
This review is from: Carried Away (The Wrong Bed) (Harlequin Temptation) (Paperback)
I have to say I wasn't a big fan of this book. The only really good thing was the hero, Trevor. I'm sorry to say but I am a sucker for a too good to be true hero. Sexy, smart, respectful, polite, loyal, hardworking, the guy had it all. I didn't dislike Christy, per say, but because Trevor was so perfect and so wonderful, I found it shocking she wasn't willing to even think about something serious with him. He's literally every woman's dream man and she doesn't want to stake her claim to the guy? But for the most part I enjoyed the couple and liked their love story. There were two things I didn't like, number one being the pacing was all off. The first half of the book takes you through the first day they meet and I have to say I loved the first half of the book, it's the second where things go down hill. It made no sense that Trevor, the emotionally mature one, didn't call her after that first day. Even though his life is busy, I would imagine he could let her know he was interested just crazy busy. But, they didn't exchange phone numbers, but he sent flowers to her work and on the card he didn't even include his number, yet a few pages later he magically has her number saved on speed dial on his cell. They then meet again and fall into bed without even a how do you do. The second thing that bothered me was this idea of soul mates the book has. Apparently all the couples in the book are actually soul mates and if you are a woman you should be willing to give up everything at the drop of a hat for a man if he's your soul mate, case in point the secondary relationship of Viv and Eric. Unlike another reviewer, I totally agreed with Christy about her views of their relationship and didn't think Christy was jealous in anyway, only cared about her friend. The author would lead us to believe that it's a woman's place to totally compromise for her man while he gets to call all the shots, and him making the first move to reconcile is the same as him compromising. I was really pretty disgusted about Viv and Eric's whole relationship. Sure, in real life there are people who are in love with someone and they are always giving and the other person is always taking, but I don't want to read about that as an example of a woman "wising up" and being smart about her love life. Sure Viv might love Eric now, but what happens in 10 or 15 years and he is still taking and she is still giving and he starts to think he is entitled to sleep with other women or who knows what. If a guy is going to be so utterly selfish and only think of himself and not his PARTNER 6 months after getting married, what is he going to be like 10 years down the road? I am of the school that sometimes love isn't enough and not if you have a "soul mate" you should do whatever you want to make him happy, even give up everything you have in your life. That has the making of a very controlling and unhealthy relationship. On the whole, this is a sweet book with a very good beginning, but because of the negative message in the secondary romance and poor pacing I have to say, 3 stars.

Carried Away....,
By Ann (Knightdale, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carried Away (The Wrong Bed) (Harlequin Temptation) (Paperback)
This book is pretty good and only takes a few hours to read. Like others in The "Wrong Bed" series it's shockingly funny. The wrong bed scene is hilarious. The subplot with Vivian & Eric is a bit too much, is this plot from another book the author wrote? They need their own book, if they don't already have it, to take care of their unfinished business. This is Christy & Trevor's story and too much of Viv & Eric's baggage is all tangled up in the main characters relationship. |
