Edward Marolda has provided a readable and concise history of carrier operations in the South China Sea during the Vietnam war. Every page has one or more photographs that brings home the text. There are stunning nuggets of information in there such as the time Navy pilots from Task Force 77 discovered a train near Hanoi loaded with 200 SAMs. They were more than shocked to find out that under the Johnson-McNamara Rules of Engagement (ROE) they were not allowed to destroy the missiles. Seems that under the ludicrous ROE aircrew had to hold off until the missiles were actually shot at them before they could destroy the site.

I found the book invaluable in my research for my five-book "Rolling Thunder" series which are available on Amazon's Kindle books.
