From School Library Journal
Gr 5-7-This brief volume begins with an interesting history of the evolution of aircraft carriers, followed by a discussion of the world situation in 1941 and the importance of the U.S. military bases at Pearl Harbor. Another chapter tells briefly of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The remainder of the text describes the major battles in the Pacific and the shift in the role of battleships as carriers became more important. The pages of text have wide margins. The large, black-and-white photos are not the ones usually seen in history texts. A map of the Japanese Empire appears on the endpapers. While not comprehensive, this book can serve as a springboard to many of the standard titles that should be available in most libraries. A good introduction for readers who are becoming familiar with this period of history.
