3.0 out of 5 stars What Happened To "Stomp Dance"?
Customer Video Review     Length:: 2:35 Mins
I love Micheal Nyman's compositions. The score is beautiful and very moving. I ordered the soundtrack to specifically hear the Ragtime-like piece, "Stomp Dance". It was part of the movie soundtrack, but not included on the cd. Bummer! (special thanks to "sombrerero" on youtube for creating this great presentation.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow-paced, but never boring!, July 15, 2000
This review is from: Carrington: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I find this soundtrack to be very sad, which doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. It also has lively moments, but they end abruptly. Most of the themes are very lento, therefore suitable to the movie's pace. Mr. Nyman had composed some of this music long before he was commissioned to work on the soundtrack, and he managed to give the impression that he knew every character in the movie well. He does not fail at making us aware of the musicality behind the characters emotions. All in all, this soundtrack offers some of the most interesting string arrangemets I've found in contemporary film music.

Yes, gorgeous music from the always moving Michael Nyman. I love his scores. Gattaca and End of the Affair are also stunning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this music......, March 8, 2009

When I saw the movie, the music added something more to it...and I believe without it, the movie wouldn't be as entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars a mrrior of emotions, May 10, 2007
This review is from: Carrington: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
nyman's score for 'carrington' just floored me. his music gave insight to the complex and powerful emotions that drove many members of the bloomsbury group and their associates. the amin theme for carrington and lytton strachey was adapted from his string quartet #3. and the end of it is overwhelming in its emotional content. there are shorter pieces that are very rhythmic and lively; then are longer themes that define the men in carrington's life. my personal favorites are 'brenan', 'partridge' and 'floating the honeymoon'. i also like the inclusion of the schubert. this is a very classy score.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strings for your listening pleasure.., December 9, 1998

The soundtrack is a collection of moving pieces, without even seeing the movie you are able to imagine the images that the music, especially the strings, brings to mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, bombastic and blah!, June 1, 2001

Without a doubt one of the worst musical scores ever written for a film. I really wanted to like the film because of the fine performances by Emma Thompson and Jonathan Price. But I was almost driven from the theater by the wall-to-wall, repetitive, droning, boring dreck Nyman forced on the audience. A little restraint would have been nice. Avoid this one like the plague.
